Rocky G was ace but Martinez would most likely stop him late. Just does everything better.

Cerdan stopped Zale after 11 rounds (it was Zale's last pro fight).

Cerdan was stopped in the 10th round by Jake Lamotta (Cerdan fought with a dislocated shoulder for much of the fight but after 9 rounds couldn't take it anymore. A rematch was set but Cerdan died before the fight took place.

Cerdan also beat Holman Williams W10 and Georgie Abrams W10.

He beat shot versions of all of his best opponents.

Getting up and winning, defending your title is what matters most. Not winning every second of every round :good

But it cannot be called a dominating or great performance, that is my argument.

Fair enough, though I don't think Martinez was close to being stopped despite the KD.

Still a terrible way to finish a championship fight as the champ'.

Meh, he could have retired in the corner with all his injuries like Vitali as early as the 7th round but that's not how Sergio rolls. Championship heart and skill was on display that night.

    Terrible **** weak argument.

I don't give Vitali too much credit either.

I rather enjoyed it. A lot were picking Chavez to win and Martinez spanked him . Won cash online and from pretty much all my Mexican friends

Again, he didn't spank him, he beat him for the majority then took harder shots than he'd landed all fight and had to hang on for dear life.

That changed it from 'incredible schooling' to 'hard fought and wide decision' IMO ;)

Champions get dropped and get up all the time.

Still an utterly dominant win. I don't buy the interpretation that a Chavez KO was imminent. Sergio had recovered, and Jr. was exhausted.

Winning 11 rounds in a boxing championship aint easy. There are reasons most champs, regardless of era, don't pull that off often.

for what it's worth, i think one punch CAN change an entire fight...if it results in a knockout. in chavez's case, it only resulted in a knockdown and all he managed to salvage was a little dignity.

it changed the fight from holmes-cobb into holmes-shavers 2.

    WHAT THE ****?

MARTINEZ CLEARLY WON! HE WAS DROPPED ONCE IN THE 12TH, GOT UP, AND WENT BACK TO BEATING CHAVEZ'S ASS. HE WAS NOT ALMOST STOPPED... AND THERE IS NO SCENERIO YOU CAN THINK UP THAT WOULD MAKE HIM "ALMOST STOPPED" in his fight vs. Chavez!!!

Give it a rest people. Chavez was beat badly. Sure, he's strong, durable, and hits pretty hard... he may even become an all-time great, but he lost 118-109 IMO. He doesn't even deserve a rematch but it would probably sell... so don't be surprise if it happens.
