saw the fight. Since when does Allegelly = the truth Come on! Also, the book was written 50 years after the fight!

 

Phillips told his account of the fight a couple of years after it happened. Don Buchan confirmed it ,there are numerous ringside reports of the fight that confirm Langford was down twice for long nine counts ,and also that Johnson was not floored.These include Senya's contribution posted here .

Unlike yourself, Senya is always ready to back up his posts with primary sourced reports there are also several accounts in Pollack's book on Johnson which corroborate Phillips account.

Of course if you want to pretend to yourself it didn't happen and that Langford dropped Johnson go right ahead .

It isn't like you have any credibility to lose on the subject.

If you read older fight reports, you will note that some of them, even primary sources can miss describing knockdowns that happened.

I'm not saying a knockdown did or not happen. I am saying others claimed it did happen. Nat didn't always research what he wrote.

 

Next day papers all corroborate Johnson dropping Langford THREE TIMES twice from good punches,the other I gave Langford the benefit of the doubt with because it was decribed as not much of a punch.
NO PAPERS SAID LANGFORD DROPPED JOHNSON.

He doesn't rate above any of Dempsey, Johnson, or Jeffries. The guy is a myth.

 

He's not a myth.. but he certainly shouldn't be ranked ahead of Johnson that's for sure. His best wins were over a past his best Sam.. who also beat him. No way that's good enough to move past Johnson or even Jeffries, Sullivan or Fitz

I don't see Wills beating any of those three.Jeffries would walk through him,Sullivan would ko him ,and Fitz would break his ribs. I have a feeling Wills did not have the biggest ticker, just a feeling.

 

NOt sure what is meant by "top" of the division, but clearly it should be changed to read Dempsey.

Wills was the second highest paid fighter of his era and the second best fighter of his era. IN many ways, he was the equivalent of Vitali Klitchsko.
