From Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated :

I guess this echoes what Dan Rafael was saying a week or so back. It'll be interesting to see if Showtime confirms or denies these numbers.

What are their sources? Not that I dispute them, but hearsay is just that.

Interesting to see if Showtime confirms or stays quiet, indeed.

I'm guessing the "estimate" is a little high and Showtime will not confirm, as was the case for the most recent HBO PPV.

Either way, people shouldn't be surprised.

Guerrero fight did 870K PPV buys. Maidana is comparable with his lack of fan base in the United States... Also, Mayweather vs. Maidana, for some dumb reason believed by dumb asses was thought to be an epic mismatch which wouldn't produce worthy entertainment. Those people were wrong, but if ESB is any gauge, those people all elected not to buy the PPV for those reasons.

Anyone who thought the PPV would do more than 1.1-1.2 M were pretty off their rocker anyways.

Stamina, I agree, the fighters are making money, but that doesn't mean the promoter or network is. Sometimes projections fall short. I've promoted events that were catastrophic and were well below expectations. **** happens. But the attractions, in this case boxers, always got paid.

Showtime confirmed the ppv numbers after a week for the Mayweather-alvarez. it's almost a month and no confirmation from Showtime about the Mayweather-maidana ppv numbers.

I still think it was an epic mismatch, but I did end up buying it. Floyd chose to fight in a way that was entertaining and dangerous. My hat's off to him, but I believe Floyd could have made it the boring obvious mismatch if he wanted, but he's trying to get future numbers up with the lack of future superstar opponents, and looking vulnerable does that; raises ratings. It's a lot like they way Bradley opted to fight Provodnikov to make it exciting and put on a show for ratings (and got fight of the year because of it). Bradley went out and started trading with him right off the bat, to the chagrin of Diaz. Anyway, the real dumbasses are the ones who believe Maidana beat Floyd and is on Floyd's level.

That's bull****. If they were losing money like that you would see folks getting fired like crazy.

SD was 65 and HD 75 so looking at about 63,000,000. You act like that was the only source of income to pay the bills. They also made money off of the gate, souvenirs, licensing/trademark, etc. Showtime is making money off of these fights.

Yea I didn't expect this one to do any better than Mayweather-Guerrero, but a rematch sure would. 1.3-1.4 million ppvs with a decent undercard.

Half of that 63 million would go to Cable/Satellite providers. So we'll be looking at something like 31.5 million, which is damn near Floyd's guarantee. He also was guaranteed more money if the PPV hit a certain number, but no clue on what the over/under was on that.

Was expecting $1.1m-$1.2m tops. Still $900k isn't a bad number considering Maidana was given zero chance and completely overlooked by everyone.
