with a sell number like floyd did...he certainly isnt seeing any ppv upside...so its unlikely hes seeing anymore than what his base guarantee is...although im not sure what his deal is with concessions/merch...i know he gets a chunk of that usually....but that may also rely on ppv numbers too.......even if he sees not a penny over his guarantee....thats a good nights work....and like JE said...there are several other sources of revenue....gate/sponorships....showtime aint losin money...and if they are its a drop in the bucket type of figure for the CBS company......floyd and showtime are doing fine......people just wanna see him fail in every avenue possible...and if hes not doin 1.5-2.4 people will deem him a failure

How come PPV's are so expensive in America? I read through the info at SkySports PPV and Froch/Groves II, by far the country's most anticipated fight, only costs an equivalent of about $30 U.S. dollars. Yet an 11-1 mismatch costs $75 in America.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-70-million-after-his-fight-vs-marcos-maidana

Mayweather says he made $70 million for Maidana fight. How is it feasible that Floyd makes that money and SHO doesn't lose.

did u not even read the article?

just floyd sorta talkin out of his ass....prob thinkin the fight was gonna do better than it did.....but its highly unlikely that hes seeing anything like 70 mil....i think everyone knows that....for floyd to make 70 mil that fight woulda had to have done 2-3 times what it did.....

I did read the article. Said once PPV numbers were in he expected to make $70 million. Either he's not being honest, or is plain delusional. If they fight did 2-3 times what the reported numbers are, that would have meant 1.8 or 2.7 million buys. I doubt even most Floyd fans expected that, considering there wasn't a Mexican on the B Side.

ya i think he was just being delusional......no one realistically expected anything over 1.2.....i think he was just coming down from the fight and just talking out of his ass

one thing i find interesting though is how the movie theatre sales get brought in.....i know when he fought canelo in vegas alone he sold 26k seats at 100 bucks a pop just for closed circuit....and i know movie theatres have been getting in on floyds fights....i watched floyd/canelo at the foxwoods MGM....i think it was 15 or 20 bucks....and the place was pretty packed....its not a movie theatre either....they do fights and concerts in there....

so im wondering what the deal is with theatres and that kind of revenue

Threads and post in this forum are not generated by fact, only a genuine dislike or hate for particular fighters (hint hint).

You would have a point if PPV was the only revenue but its not. youre not counting the theaters as well as the tickets sold to the actual fight, as well as every t-shirt, hot dog, beer etc. No matter how much hes getting paid, Mayweathet fights make bank. his first fight of the year doesnt matter anyway. the september fight will be the big money maker with the over the top promotion like last year. watch.

HUGE underdog, not Mexican ... amazing it did 900K! Floyd is still #1 PPV king.

Because the average American beer guzzling plebeian will spend money on the most absurd frivolities one could imagine. Just for the sake of doing so.

Other than that, people usually throw fight parties to mitigate the total cost of such an expenditure. Everyone chips in a fair share.

Fights like these probably usually have more than ten times the viewers the PPV buy rate would suggest in the states alone.

You know some fans just pay to see Mayweather lose, Maidana wasn't expected to win at all.
