I'm just curious why a press tour was never considered? Mayweather-Canelo did an eleven city press tour.

As much as the Khan-Mayweather fight was panned publicly in the US, I definitely think it likely would've done better. Khan is a much more charismatic figure. He's good at promoting a fight. They definitely could've done a press tour, which I think would've drummed up interest in the fight. The unfortunate problem was that Khan was coming off a lackluster performance so it was going to be difficult to sell the fight to the public. The irony in all this is that Khan looked great in his last performance and will now likely turn down a September fight due to Ramadan. Besides the Pacquiao fight, I think this Khan fight needs to happen, assuming Khan can continue his winning ways. There's just not a lot of "big name" guys right now to sell to the public. At least Khan has an international fan base and following. In addition, he brings some charisma that will not be totally overshadowed by Mayweather.

Floyd does not sell. His largest PPVs were due to his opponents, not him. I hope Showtime loses a bundle LMAO!!

It basically comes down to this...."No-one wants to see the Villian win!" How many of you went to see "Spiderman" or "Batman" just to see the Green Goblin or The Joker kick-ass? No-one wants to pay $50 - $80 to see someone they don't like, win...plain and simple. All of you posters go on and on about how Floyd's two biggest fights (PPV) were against opponests that already had a "big following". Now that may be true to some degree, however, those fighters (Oscat and Canelo) were the only fighters that actually had a legitimate chance to beat Mayweather. And IMO, thats the MAIN REASON why those fights did so well. Maidana, Ortiz, Guererro, we all knew the outcomes of these fights. And no-one wanted to shell-out money to see Mayweather win...again.

IMO, he has two real options that would guarantee huge PPV sales. With the lack of legitimate competition at 147lbs, he may have to fight an opponent that holds a belt at 160lbs and beyond. The weight difference will at least give people the perception that they pose a legitimate threat to Mayweather. The other option is the STACK THE HELL out of his cards (similar to the Canelo card). Example...here is my September card for a Maidana rematch:

    Broner vs Mathysse
    Thurman vs Porter
    Figueroa vs Lundy
    Russell Jr. vs Mares

    $1.5 - $2Mill....EASY!!!

decent #s for minimal promotion and vs a guy the public really never heard of. These #'s are still better than Pac-Bradley II.:deal

Mayweather will only do HUGE PPV #'s if he fights someone the people perceive as a "threat". DLH, Mosley, Cotto, Canelo are his biggest PPV's and they are all guys the fans and public thought would beat Floyd. They even screamed he ducked, was ducking or was going to duck each of those guys at some point and then fought them and beat them all. They were all the #1 ranked champion in their division at the times Floyd fought them.

Because Americans are some of the dumbest boxing fans on the planet. The TV stations realized that and started milking them for their money. And guess what, no one complained!
