No he doesn't deserve it more. Why would he?

 

Why would some one who has fought no one of great significance deserve to be?

 

To be fair to Khan, I think if Haye deserves a nomination they he did too. He's done well too come back from getting destroyed last year, true an old MAB, a solid Andreas Kotelnik and completely overmatched Dmitri Salita isn't a year to go down in boxing legend but it's solid, David Haye won 1 fight where he was favourite I don't see how that is so much better.

 

Even Froch deserves it more than Khan, but this is a popularity contest and Haye has become "one" of the HW champions of the world. Normies give more credence to this achievement than almost anything else that happens in the lower weight divisions, so thats why David got the nod.

 

Its all about perception though.

I don't know about you, but all I got from mates and relatives in the build-up to that fight was "I can't believe your picking Haye to win, the guy's he's fighting is HUGE". In the eyes of the uneducated it was a big victory for Britain, David beating Goliath and all that bollox.

 

So he's beaten an old super bantam/featherweight in a fight which should have been stopped in the first because of the headbutt and ruled a no contest but was allowed to go on until it could be called a tko because of corruption, beaten a failed European title challenger who'd managed to pick up a vacant belt and then ko'd a guy with a padded record. Hardly awe inspiring.
Haye doesn't deserve awards either on the back of beating one of the worst title holders in heavyweight history and failing to look impressive in doing it.

Accidental clash of heads not headbutt, Kotelnik is a solid world class fighter, he outboxed Maidana, who is the hot new thing, and he took out Salita in style.

 

Its not an achievement award.

I'd call him fringe world class insofar as I can't think of a champ or major belt holder I'd pick him to beat at 140 since I started following boxing. It was impressive how Khan hanfdled him though. I think the Salita fight says more about Salita than it does Khan, particularly that he shouldn't have been anwhere near a title shot. Maidana I've never seen so I can't really comment, I've herd he's a bit scrappy. The Yanks go on about him a bit but I'll reserve judgement unti he wins something big.
I'm not knocking Khan, I just don't think those three wins mean he should have awards lobbed at him

 

Fair enough. It is what it says on the tin I suppose. If it's a personality contest then between the two Haye wins hands down. So there you go, that's my new answer, disregard previous posts.
