I don't know what it is, when you have the likes of Paula Radcliffe(as already mentioned), Joe Calzaghe and that Zara whatshername winning it, then it can't be a personality contest and that Scottish fella who won it last year is a boring ******* too. The best sportsman I've seen this year from these shores hasn't even been nominated for it.
Its a popularity contest, the winner can have achieved great things, be a funny/ nice person, have an endearing catchphrase, a nice smile. Anything that will make the public vote for them. Radcliff is boring (as said) so maybe SHE did win it on achievements, that doesn't mean that the winner is always decided that way. Its just a list of names put before the public and they vote for who they think should win for whatever reasons they like.
Amir Khan won his would WBA title, with a great performance. David Haye was given the WBA world title, for throwing 11 punches a round..? for the good of boxing. Plus a 46 year old Evander Holyfield, should of been WBA a year before.... No contest... Jenson Button hands down, takes it..!
What Amir Khan has been through, was more of a test..of his personality..! David Haye has chatted **** for 6 months, then went on to...**** out against WK..and then chatted some more ****. And performed **** against "The Beast"..? 11 punches a round thrown, landed 1 or 2 a round..? come on man..? You gotta back your talk up..! and David Haye failed to do that..!
forget that, what about the royal princess or summat who won the equestrian? Her speech was about twenty seconds long and completely devoid of emotion!
that's how I see it. Amir Khan has not fought big enough to be considered. Haye spoke arrogantly before and after, was extremely rude to Valuev, and then 'beat' him by throwing ten punches a round. Hardly won his title in storming fashion, and without the grace of a good British champion. Then there's Froch who won that storming fight with Taylor, has defended his belt in two difficult fights this year. Froch deserves it more than any of them in my eyes :think
Not as bad as those boxing fans, Gaz. Those crazy ****s stay up until the early hours each weekend without the guarantee that they will see a decent fight.
Thats exactly what I got..... and why I was able to make a bit of cash because of idiots putting money on Valuev, I think Haye on points drifted out to 11/4
and don't forget how big the Haye fight was.... it did like 500k+ buys, my pub was rammed with part timers to watch this.... I never realised it was going to be that big
He beat a blown up faded former super-bantamweight, one of the worst world champions who won it from an average list of WBA champs, Rees, M'Baye etc and defended against someone who was undefeated but crap. All this after being blown away by someone who Kevin Mitchell beat last week. Haye was the best Cruiserweight in the world and won the WBA title at Heavyweight away from home. Who would you pick? :huh
