Then you have fighters like DLH who move up to MW and look like ****, slow and lethargic against a bigger guy in Felix Sturm. Or guys like JMM who move who move up straight away to fight Mayweather, returned to the division years later after he acclimated his body to the weight class.

Maybe with Charlos natural athleticism it won't dramatically effect him early on, but not being able to acclimate his body the way Canelo has over the years to the 168 pound division is going to be a big problem for him going down the stretch of the fight IMO.

Well lucky for Charlo it's good timing & he's been shrinking himself by making 154, he should be more healthier & he has youth on his side.

He is older than Canelo so doesn't have youth on his side lol.

In fairness I still think Canelo is a small 168lber and tiny at 175.
Canelo just has great head movement and timing. His power has also improved as he moved up which does happen sometimes when you cut a bit of weight.

John Ryder is similar, not much power and small at 160, moves up to 168 and has big power and better cardio.

Jermell is bigger than Canelo for sure and will look it in the ring.
This is no size bullying by Canelo regardless of the weight jump.

Jermell is just a great weight cutter, he will be 180 in ring no doubt about it.

Skill will be the key in this fight not size.

Canelo is clear favourite for sure but if Charlo can use his length and combinations he can win.

Charlo has the physical tools to do a bivol, he might not have the technical skills or boxing brain though lol.

Marquez just got on the juice because he was legitimately too small (or simply too old) to go to 147 and not be fat. Similar case with De La Hoya, who went up like Robert Garcia’s fighter’s go up in weight, by just not draining as much, getting fatter, instead of proper strength & conditioning. Charlo doesn’t seem to have either of those issues, he’s shredded. He has the frame, the size, the conditioning (not drinking ****). Would acclimatisation help? Yes. But this is part of the challenge of moving straight to the champion.

And that's the point, and reasoning behind mostly everybody's negative reaction to the fight since its announcement. The beginning of the fight Charlo is going to compete, he has skills, but it's going to be how well he can fight down the stretch that's going to be the question going in. I think it's not going to end well for Charlo, he's risking his advantages in speed for the bag.

But isn't Canelo's main problem that he gasses and fades down the stretch? Charlo has incredible conditioning and has shown the ability to turn it on late in a fight. Look at the late stoppages vs Harrison and Castaño. I don't expect him to stop Canelo late but if we're comparing who has proven himself to be the better fresher more dangerous fighter down the stretch of a fight it's clearly been Jermell.

What makes you think Jermell will fade? It's Canelo's who's known to gas and fade late in fights, not Jermell. Jermell's conditioning is not an issue like it is for Canelo. And without having to drain himself, Jermell could end up having even more in the gas tank than usual which could be a problem for Canelo.

Jermell isn't going to be weighing in at 154, he's going to be closer to 168 and that means more weight on his frame by fight night. I feel he's going to lose speed and stamina as the fight reaches the later rounds. Maybe I'm wrong, but for what's its worth I just hope he makes it competitive throughout the fight not just the first half.
