It's always been the case. You do everything you can to tear Canelo down pre fight.

Thanks. I never said Jermello was at a reach disadvantage. I was talking about Loma and Haney.

I actually voted in that poll and I voted no difference at all.

It doesn't change the fact that the ginger demon is fighting a guy who campaigns two divisions South of his even though they're both the same size when he should be facing fellow 168 pounder El Bandera Roja.

Yet for some reason I get accused of overhyping Canelo. I mean I definitely rate Canelo as a great fighter but I also recognize his limitations. The thing about Canelo is that he fights high level competition, so even as great as he is, you know it's not gonna be a walk in the park for him, especially with his stamina issues and the fact that he's got a lot of miles on his boxing career. The difference in this fight is that, while we both rate Canelo, you don't seem to rate Charlo at all, whereas I've been paying attention to him for some time and I know how good he is. He's Undisputed for a reason.

For you to expect an Undisputed Champion to be KO'd in the 1st round, that's crazy. I mean I could see him being caught with a late stoppage but Canelo is notoriously a slow starter. I know you said unless Canelo's carries him, that gives you an out if it goes long to say "Canelo just carried him" but that's just how Canelo fights. I mean you could say that Canelo "carried" Ryder to the finish line, could have got him out of there earlier if he really pressed the action after he hurt him and knocked him down. You could argue Canelo "carried" Plant too, Canelo doesn't typically push the pace early in the fight. And especially when there's this much respect for Jermell Charlo and the fact that he knows Jermell packs a punch Canelo is probably going to be super cautious early.

But for you to say you expect a 1st round KO, that's a bold statement but he has been known to "carry" fighters, i.e. be patient early then up the pressure in the mid rounds. But if he can't get him outta in the mid rounds and he's in a dogfight (which could be the case against Jermell) then it's possible he gasses and is then unable to stop him late. The way I see it, this fight could go a lot of different ways which makes it exciting. I think you're just selling the fight short by claiming he could easily stop him in the 1st round. Jermell is much better than you're giving him credit for and I expect him to show just how good he is on Sept 30th. But we'll see.

OK but the Loma Haney comparison doesn't really apply since Loma was at a significant reach disadvantage as the smaller guy while the opposite is true for Jermell against Canelo. The difference in reach is far less than it was for Loma vs Haney, but still significant in the other direction. But you do recognize that they both matchup well physically. A lot of posters on here are no selling this matchup. Don't you find that a bit much? Would you agree that this is an interesting matchup? Are you looking forward to it?

I don't need an out, I'm not that invested as I see the fight as a mismatch. I win either way. If it's boring I don't care cos I've skipped it, if it's a good fight I'll watch it after the fact. I can't lose here.

I rate Canelo as levels above Charlo. It's just a shame that the other p4p guys are pushing themselves and fighting the best in their division or the division above and Canelo is dragging a guy up from 2 divisions lower.

I rate Canelo much to high to accept this fight as worthy of him.

You'll lose if it's even remotely competitive, as you're expecting a complete mismatch. If Jermell wins rounds, goes the distance, or wins you'll look like an idiot in predicting a 1st round KO.
Canelo just took on one of the best at 168 in John Ryder who was the WBO mandatory after winning an eliminator against previously unbeaten Zach Parker. Last year Canelo took on the best in the division above in Bivol. So Canelo has done what you're asking for. The difference is that other P4P fighters only fight once a year, so in addition to fighting one of the best at 168 (Ryder) and the best at 175 (Bivol) last year, he also managed to fight GGG who was a unified Champion at 160 and is now fighting the Undisputed Champion at 154.

Of course we want P4P fighters to challenge themselves against the best possible opponents. The fact is that Jermell Charlo is higher rated P4P than anyone in Canelo's division at this point. So Canelo's fighting the highest P4P fighter he could possibly fight right now. Canelo has been pushing himself far more than other P4P fighters. He's fighting far more often and taking consistently bigger risks than anyone else.

I don't care if I look like an idiot, I'm not emotionally invested and I'll happily look like an idiot if it means I watch a fight that was entertaining.
But chances are Canelo bombs him out in 1.

Nah if you look at the most recent fights. Usyk has beaten AJ, Inoue beaten Fulton and Crawford beaten Spence.

Canelo has beaten Ryder and is due to fight Charlo. Disappointed big time.

Gotta love it when people try to use the absolute BEST boxers, or actual ATG's as their examples. Because if ATG's can do it, surely ANY boxer, even one with a garbage resume, can do it.

Broner is an ATG? You want a list of bums beating other bums? What do you want bro?

And for the most part those guys were not only heavily outweighed, they were also outsized in every category. Which isn’t even the case here with Jermell vs Canelo.

The Real Lance. If you want to say you don’t think Jermell is good enough to beat Canelo, just say Jermell is not good enough to beat Canelo. Bums don’t have these feats and that’s why they’re “bums”, but Charlo is a champion at least.

It does apply because the point Serge was making is that despite the fact Jermello is moving up two weight classes, and many will act like he's the much smaller man fighting an opponent two divisions bigger than him, he's actually naturally roughly the same size as Clenelo in terms of weight, will likely weigh roughly the same as him in the ring and if not there will only be a few pounds in it, and he's also significantly taller and longer, whereas, the natural size, weight, length difference between Haney and Loma is obscene despite the fact they campaign in the same weight class and Loma was actually giving away a ridiculous amount of weight and reach.

In fact, the weight difference between him and everyone he's fought at 135 is way more than it is between Clenelo and Jermello even though, as said, they've both must weigh about the same as each other. If Jermello was to come in at 168 what he weighed at 154 (170) in the ring in his last fight and Clenelo comes what he does at 175 (178-180) then the difference would be roughly the same as for a bunch of the fighters Loma has fought at 135 and(with the exception of once IIRC he still gave away a significant/huge amount of reach in addition to that. But obviously Jermello is going to come in heavier than he does at 154 and he himself admits he's really a 160 pounder. You feel me?

We know Jermello is bigger than Clenelo in terms of height and reach but I believe he's the same natural size as him in terms of weight too and the weight difference between them in the ring will be nothing if anything at all. I could be wrong but the most I expect it to be would be 3-5lbs max and I won't be in the least bit surprised it they both come in at 178-180.

No more than I am looking forward to any decent world level fight. Jermello is a good fighter for sure but 154 is pretty weak division and he should be, and would be, 1-1 in his last 2 fights if not for the PBC/showtime mafia robbing poor Castano blind of his place in history of becoming undisputed in the four-belt era. And I thought the 7lbs lighter Vanes deserved the nod against Jermello and obviously Harrison beat him too. So that's three losses, all in his own country, at his first weight, a division he's huge for, against fighters his size or smaller.

And the fighters he won his titles against with the exception of Castano are all made out of glass and have been knocked out in 10 of their combined 12 losses and numerous times by D levels. Bananas Rosario and Tony Harrison are walking glass factories and John Jackson who was whooping his ass till his chin gave out on him.

So that's one. Oohh... you got me there!

Moving up from smaller classes isn't as difficult as it is jumping weight in the higher divisions. Especially 160 to 168. That has always been a tough jump. For the most part, you are moving into weight class against guys with naturally larger frames. Guys who will likely be at 175 as well in the future. Canelo's already fought at 175 and held a title.

You all need to give it a rest that Jermell is bigger or equal in size to canelo.

Who the f*ck is calling Jermell a bum?? I sure as hell aren't. Look, there's weight classes for a reason. Don't know how much more clear I can be. It would be one thing if Jermell v canelo took place AFTER Jermell had at least fought at 160. But it's a JrMW moving to SprMW.

The hell happen to this board??? Wasn't all that long ago most posters hated catchweight fights. And hated matchups between guys separated by too much weight. Now fanboys rule the roost and don't give a damn about anything but their fave and his pocket book... WTF...

I still don't like this fight for Canelo because of the weight jump, but I want to see him in there with this type of fighter and he is the better of the twins as it is. Also it should silence the he doesn't fight black fighters crowd. I feel like he should win it going away but I'm not ready to rule out a big night from Charlo either, especially seeing what just happened a couple of weeks back. If Charlo dominates him everything goes out the window lol.
