    He poses completely different problems. Chepo Reynoso has actually instilled better "pure boxing" fundamentals in him than Sarmiento ever did in Martínez. Álvarez isn't as fast or slick (despite his attempts sometimes to ape the shoulder roll, which are only less comedic and ill-advised than, say, Broner's...) and doesn't have the same reach but his defense is sounder (more rooted in technique and not so reliant on athleticism) and, though he attacks in spurts just like Martínez, he counters in extended combinations more often rather than ambush hands-down pot-shots. His stamina has also improved over the years and while Maravilla's was probably better due to his soccer background, the success Jr. had in the championship frames was more to do with Maravilla being past his prime and expending too much energy with his style over the first 9-10. Álvarez can box well enough to not be drawn into any rough stuff on the inside or prolonged exchanges where Jr. can sap his strength. He'll do just enough to outpoint his man without gassing, and it won't be that exciting. IMO.

    This is going to be a really interesting fight. Chavez has been a punching bag for quite some time now, but his chin affords him the luxury of taking his opposition's best shots and keep coming forward at them. He's fought much bigger, stronger guys than Alvarez has and I have my doubts that Canelo has the power to knock him out.

    If Chavez works on his strength and more importantly his conditioning, he could make this a very tough fight for Alvarez. The size advantage is quite significant and if Chavez has a serious training camp and makes the weight comfortably, it could end up being a good one.

    I don't know how Chavez is going to make 164lbs. That seems an absolute joke and this shouldn't have been sanctioned.

    He made the MW limit more recently (4½ years) than Dawson had fought at the SMW limit (6½ years) when he dropped for Ward. :nusenuse:

    while I agree canelo is a better boxer movement is what troubled Jr and canelo flat footed as **** and is at a physical disadvantage anyways I hope its a good fight

    Good post.

    If junior is not weight drained and it goes to dog fight canelo might find himself on tougher fight what his handlers tought it could be. And could very well be stoppage loss for him.



    That said I hope good, entertaining war.

    Alravez is the rightful favorite in thia fight, but I won't count out Jr, assuming he has a successful training camp and the weight isn't a factor.

    Did anyone see his last fight,I'll be honest I not seen it but by all accounts he was slow and well pretty poor according to news 24,suppose when you think it was his first fight after his loss to Fonfara then it's to be expected,I'd like to see him looking good but I don't expect it?

    Even worse which we should of all seen coming a mile off if we're honest Oscar incredibly has said this match up between Canelo n Chavez,get this,will probably be a three fight thing,yep you heard not just a rematch if competetive but already a three match thing,Oscar said GGG will not be happening this year lol.
