Current state of SA heavies is really poor, there are no prospects at all.

Whereas at CW and LHW we have some tough SA fighters who compete at the elite level or near it.

Do you know why he left boxing & why he did that career change? He was the name guy coming up at one point in time and was thought of like his contemporaries as possibly having a nice career.

Then, bang, he was gone. But there definately was something with the guy as a blue chip prospect.

I don't know why Bernardo stopped boxing. TBH I'd sort of forgotten about him. But he never had a moustache iirc so maybe he was suspended by the SA boxing authorities? ;) :D

I had big hopes for Oosthuizen but it seems his career has been permanently derailed by personal problems.

I have watched him. You are pretending I havent and basing your point on that pretence.FLOP point mate again.

where is the lie you claim I made? why have you not quoted it? you are basing your point on something that's not been written.
    FLOP MATE again.

which facts are wrong. You've not quoted it. Again I suspect you are basing your post on something that's not been written by me. FLOP MATE again.

wrong, where have I said that? again you are basng your post on something not written by me.
why did you not quote me saying it? FLOP mate.

why do you feel the repeated need to base your entire reply to me on material not written by me? That's very flop mate. Is it because if you had based your reply on what I actually did write, then you wouldn't have a point to make? Because that's overwhelmingly what it looks like to readers if you avoid quoting and then misquote with your own words. Good luck with that plan.

Herol, there's nothing to engage with. You have been factually proven wrong, and you have made an absurd post based off your b oner for Wlad that has been rightly derided. I'm not interested in discussing your nonsense. Have a good day.

I agree. I've always loved the heavyweights, and I always enjoyed watching the Heavyweight Explosion cards -- except for one time.

After Darroll Wilson stopped Shannon Briggs on the HBO Night of the Heavyweights card, Kushner decided to move his Heavyweight Explosion shows to PPV. They were relatively inexpensive shows as I recall, like $19.99.

The first showcased Wilson in his first fight after Briggs. He was fighting Rick Sullivan - a total nobody. (Seems like he was supposed to fight someone else instead, but it's all a blur now.) Obed Sullivan was the co-feature. He was fighting James Gaines (who I hadn't seen before - and this was before Boxrec, so I had no idea he was just a big fat guy).

John Ruiz was fighting Greg Pickrom on the card. At the time, I was a Greg Pickrom fan. (Why, I don't know. He was a puncher and I liked punchers. And he was a regular on the shows.) Bobby Harris, the National amateur champ was fighting, too. He was a rising prospect. Courage Tshabalala was on the card, too.

So, I figured, for $19.99 ... maybe they'd show four, five ... maybe the entire heavyweight card.

Then, the night of the fights, they began the show with either the Wilson or Sullivan fight. I can't recall. Both were boring and went the distance. After two hours on the dot ... the PPV was over. No undercard. Nothing. Just two pretty bad fights.

I was probably the only person on the planet dumb enough to buy the card, because I don't think they ever tried it again. And, to make matters worse, a couple weeks later, the Sullivan and Wilson fights were shown on the channel that typical aired the Heavyweight Explosion cards (I think it was Sportschannel America where I lived).

I was so ****ed that even years later, when Rahman won the title and dumped Kushner for King, I was happy Kushner got cheated.

That was probably the worst PPV in boxing history ... and I ordered it.:good

HAHA, you ordered that card? Kushner should have given you a owes a ringside seat at the Blue Horizon for " selling " that one.

Like you said, the heavyweight explosion series went to cable. It was here where I saw the majority of the cards. This was pre-internet so I really did not mind it being tape delayed because for the most part I had no idea who won!

Speaking of Sanders I heard gym stories that he hit harder than Tyson.
If Sanders was around today in his prime or just slightly past it, he would be the best in the division.

I thought you were talking about Bernardo Mercado.

I mean he had a mustache but it was a wispy little caterpillar-on-the-lip type thing.
