source :********** Former world champion Andrew Lewis has died in his native Guyana after a motorist struck him on his bicycle. He was 44. Police in the South American country say Lewis was struck Monday on a major road outside the capital. The retired boxer, nicknamed "Six Heads," was pronounced dead at a hospital. Lewis became the first boxer from Guyana to earn a world title. In 2001, he beat James Page to win the World Boxing Association's welterweight crown in Las Vegas. Guyana declared a national holiday after the Brooklyn-based Guyanese fighter won. He was given a home in an upscale area of the country, among other prizes. Lewis lost the title in 2002. He eventually returned to Guyana where he fought regional boxers before retiring for good. RIP and Condolences to his Family
I liked him , the knockout of Page was very good. Shame he didnt box when he fought Marg , made him look completely average in the 1st then got caught in the 2nd.
My wife's family is from Guyana. It seems like there are a lot of motor accidents there. The country was understandably very proud of him. May he r.i.p.
I think it was because he was allegedly so fast and hard to hit there appeared to be six of him. Not sure who it originally came from though. He was jokingly referred to by some cruel wags as six heads but no chin. :good
You're a big piece to the puzzle of why I'm such a big fight fan today, you gave it your all to entertain every out, and you had one of the greatest monikers ever. RIP
It was because an opponent who he knocked out once said that Lewis hit him so hard that he thought he had six heads. Shame to hear about this.
RIP Lewis. I remember the Margarito fight, Larry Merchant had one of the great lines in boxing, Margarito takes him out with a combo, and Merchant says, "well, it seems we've found out that Six Heads has no chin."
