I can see the criticism, but in this case, his tactics were the best they could've been. He executed a boxing style as best he could with his movement and took advantage of every defensive opening Jones had, which was enough for the lead on the scorecards.

Unfortunately, the eye really limited what he could do strategically. Facing a guy who was nearly a half foot taller than him and with a massive reach advantage, staying outside would've not only negated his own offense, it'd have kept him right in Jones' range to cause more damage. Maybe he could've ran and still got the W, but that's not really in his makeup (kinda like Tim Bradley).

I think he did everything he could to get Jones out of there because he knew he couldn't last the distance with the eye worsening like it did. Rather than concede the fight by staying on the outside, he took a gamble and wasn't able to pull it off. Fair play to Guillermo for specifically targeting that eye like he did, as his strategy of taking big shots to land his own targeted punches worked out yesterday.

 

Jones doesn't rely on athleticism and he's not shot, so his age has nothing to do with this. This wasn't Thompson KO'ing Price with a grazing shot. Jones won on chin, he did not outbox Lebedev.

 

That's like saying that Jones doesn't have the ability to adapt to being anything more than a punching bag with a diamond type chin.
