come close?he was FASTER than floyd.(forgot to quote someone hereatsch) Anyway, when i watched that fight live,it seemed to me that meldrick was near outclassing and totally outscoring chavez(the bias sky commentary didnt help,as i recall) but watching it again, chavez really beat meldrick up.not as prolific in output, but loads of damaging hooks, bodyshots and(particularly)uppercuts. Chavez really hammered him.(not saying the reverse isnt true,it was a bitter struggle for both)it wasnt one sided at all. what a fight that was!
Obviously, the saddest moments in boxing history are Marciano knocking an old, helpless Joe Louis through the ropes, Marciano's and Corrales' tragic deaths and Ali's/McLelland's present conditions... I personally can't control myself when I see images of an old Henry Amstrong on oxigen in a hospital bed with a single Lady by his side. Boxing gat to be the Greatest Sport in the World, it trancends Sport itself - Boxing = Life.
the rematch was 4+ years later...and only then after taylor had lost 2 X's..This is not to bash JC whom I also like...meldrick needed to move up in weight while JC did not find this necesary at the time..but don't make it sound like an immediate rematch?
Tyson vs Williams. When I read the outcome I was in shock, and just a moment but the whole day.. Love you Mike
for me the 2 saddest moments have to be corrales death , because the guy gave it his all every fight and the one that leaves a lump in my throat for me is gatti's last fight , he never had the most talent , but what he lacked he made up w/ heart , and as many times as i've seen gatti get up off the canvas and find a way to win you could see that vs gomez there was no way to pull it off and you knew then that arturo's time as a fighter was over , i just wish he could of went out winning , he deserved it, as much as he gave the fans every fight
