Lloyd Honryghan suffered 2 terrible beatings against Starling and Breland. Sad to see as he clearly wasn't himself and would have influenced my opinion possiblybbeaten both on his 1985/6 form but certainly been competitive Donald Curry's defeat to Honryghan is a mirror reflection. Curry was a better fighter than Honeyghan a year earlier it would have been a impressive win for the Cobra
That was a mighty precipice he stumbled over. Impervious one day, vulnerable the next. You can blame the weight gain and reduction (see: Chris Byrd) or it was just Father Time taking his vigorish.
Hatton vs Pacquiao Hearns vs Barkley 1+2 Trinidad vs Wright Hearns vs Uriah Grant, Hearns was old, but this fight was heating up against a former Cruiserweight Champ that is rough and tough. Then Hearns twists his ankle and gets a TKO loss in the 2nd round. Maybe it was good that Hearns got injured, because it was gonna be a punishing war for a 40 year old.
Watching Qawi humiliate and batter Leon Spinks was very hard to see. Qawi was very cruel that fight and I’ve never liked him that much because of it as a fighter. Leon was out of his depth but didn’t deserve that mockery. I’m happy Michael Spinks beat Qawi and even happier that Holyfield twice bettered him.
“BEttered”” not “BAttered”. I thought Evander won the first fight and Qawi turned it up in the rematch and basically quit because he knew Holyfield was too good for him.
Pipino Cuevas-Herman Montes fight in 1985. Pipino was the crowd favorite but looked sluggish and slow throughout the fight. His vaunted punches did nothing to slow Montes from his own attacks. Then, near the end of the 3rd round, Montes lands a short left hook which sends Pipino into an odd 360 deg. pirouette where he collapses on his back, his face registering anguish as he feebly tries to lift his head off the canvas, then he finally lays flat while he's counted out. It takes several minutes before he's able to rise on unsteady feet. The once great destroyer, whose legendary fists had broken men's bones and spirits, had himself been destroyed.
Personally one of the worst was the Pazienza vs Duran rematch where Roberto obviously just showed up for a paycheck. He looked soft and plodded around the ring for 12 rounds, Pazienza could still do nothing with him but Duran was making no real effort, almost seemed like.....well you know.
I watched Rocky IV at the cinema when I was 10 years old, and I must confess that I was also very impacted by Apollo's death scene...
