I wish I had a pic of it, but Tyson coming out for the start of the 6th round against McBride, coated in sweat and water, face crunched up in pain and anxiety and nervously biting his gloves, has always stayed in my mind as very sad.
Any past prime fighter, whether they're fighting on for money or glory or whatever, getting KO'd is the saddest thing.
Atlas, his family, and even Cus knew. People like to say/think that Cus kept Tyson out of trouble....WRONG. He covered up for Mike and got him out of the sticky situations with the cops and schools.
Damn, that's chilling. There've been other sad pictures in this thread, but that all you see of Doyle is his gloved hand lying there dead on the canvas and the look on everyone's face surrounding him, that's got to take the cake of saddest boxing picture I've seen.
It is and I find it so as much as anybody else. It is a curious feature of the human condition though that everybody weeps for Joe Louis when Rocky Marciano knocks him through the ropes but nobody weeps for Johny Paycheck when Louis knocks him into the week after next.
Damn, SteveO, those are some sad pictures you've posted. I hadn't seen the one of Corrales' bike before.
Yeah it was bad. The way I heard, he was trying to pass a car and went into oncoming traffic, got hit and was thrown back into the lane he was originally in and hit there as well. Had a BAC of .25 or so. The Quarry one kills me because he seems so lost and confused. And the man gave so much. R.I.P.
The country knew and loved Joe Louis. But that makes me think about a club fighter I just saw back in september who left the ring that night 25-30-2 and probably left a little bit of himself there just for a cheapie payday and a bit of glory to be fighting in the main event.
Yeah, I'd say at least 5 or 10 ATG HWs might have been able to beat him in his prime vs their's... The guy was always a cream puff to be sure.
There is a picture of Billy Collins after he took a horrendous beating at the hands of Luis Resto, who had illegally taken the padding out of his gloves. In a bout in New York. The beating was so severe that Collins never fought again...
