Probably Arguellos best weight, Saddler prob at 126. Saddler had an iron chin, ko power, dirty tactics, toughness, adaptability, power, and heart in Arguello. Thoughts?
I'll go arguello. He was bigger, hit harder, and had a good enough chin to take what Saddler was throwing. Saddler is a better overall puncher, but Arguello will go to the body, get busted up, eat some elbows and low blows and eke out a UD.
I don't know how well Arguello will deal with all that pressure in the form of fast, volume punching mixed with all the dirty tactics that are sure to be abundant. I'm curious to hear what others have to say. I'd say it's a pretty tight fight. Both tough guys who could go 15 in grueling affairs.
Having seen Sandy Saddler several times ringside, and watching a great fighter and gentleman Alexis Arguello on tv, my money would be on Arguello at 126-30...Sandy Saddler was a tall wiry and sinewy roughneck, who new all the rough stuff in the game [ask Willy Pep], but Sandy was not hard to hit, and no FW could take the blows of Alexis Arguello, without a top defense...Styles make fights and i have Arguello by a late round stoppage...
Arguello by knockout in any era were you aren`t allowed to bite, pull hair, kick in the balls & eye gouge.
Arguello was technically better, much better jab and technique. I think Arguello is the quicker of the 2. Physically it's also pretty much a lock imo Arguello and maybe by KO
Arguello would go to the body early and break him down, win by UD or maybe a late knockout.. Would take a few big punches himself in the process though. Would be a good fight to watch.
I would personally have loved to have seen this matchup I'd have to favour Arguello due to size and strength but Saddler would be slick as hell!
