Pavlik has fought mediocre opposition. I'm a JT fan, but his stamina is s*&t. He could have beaten Pavlik in Both fights had he not gassed. Other than that, Hopkins is the only name on Pavlik's resume, and we all know what happened there. And I'm saying this as a Pavlik fan. The guy gives his all, trains like crazy, is fun to watch, seems like a good dude. But he hasn't fought many good fighters. And it's not his fault. The MW division is the pits. But the truth is the truth. Martinez is a big step up in class, albeit a 154lb step up from most of Pavlik's opponents.

Pavliks resume isnt great but to say Martinez is his 2nd biggest challenge is a nit unfair.
1.)When Pavlik fought Miranda, Miranda was picked to win in Boxing News and considered unlucky by some to have lost to AA when having many points deducted.
2.)When Pavlik fought Taylor for the title Taylor was undefeated with wins over Hopkins (twice), Spinks and a draw with Wright.
3.)2nd time Pavlik fought Taylor, it was Taylor trying to avenge his then only defeat and it was at SMW to suit Taylor.
4.)Pavlik went up to LHW to fight Hopkins in a losing effort, (wide UD loss) when Hopkins had only lost his LHW Ring belt in his fight before and was still considered #1 Ring LHW under the then Ring champ Calzaghe.

Id consider Martinez his 5th biggest challenge (but thats only my opinion)

ok.... so for one second lets ignore HYPE!

    you know ... hype?

    what gbp says...
    what hbo says...
what arum dibella or goosen say...

the people who lie to us to sell us phony products....

martinez is by far the most 2nd most talented fighter pavlik has fought

    has experience
has good foot work (miranda-zertuche-locket-espino & rubio had poor foot work)
has good defense (besides bhop I don't think pavlik has fought a defensive fighter EVER)
has good punching technique & variety
    has good endurance
    ...

do I even have to continue? all of these bums pavlik has fought in the past were flawed in one area or another... martinez IS THE 2ND BEST FIGHTER PAVLIK HAS EVER FOUGHT!

    anyone who disagrees is

    a) an idiot
    b) a pavlik fan
    c) someone who listens to hype... not true skill

So since you're not basing any of this off of hype, only physical attributes, you're saying that you've extensively watched all of Pavlik's opponents, not just in the fights with Pavlik? Espino and Lockett for example, you've seen them fight a handful of times? And the ten or twenty guys he fought before he came into the public eye? You watched them all fight? Several times?

I get what you're saying about not basing it exclusively on hype, but in the absence of seeing every single Jermain Taylor fight from the time he was in the amateurs, I think we can create an opinion of him based on the ten or fifteen fights of his we've seen, combined with who he beat and for what belts.

And that's a guy I've seen fight a bunch. I don't know if Nelson Hernandez is good, I've never seen him fight, have you? I'll bet he's not though, based on his 2-55 record.

heart is fun to watch... I agree

    but SKILLS PAY THE BILLS!

baldomir had plenty of heart... floyd stank him out
cotto has plenty of heart.... pacquiao shut him out
vinny paz has plenty of heart.... roy shut him out

heart means nothing if you can't fight

you don't have to watch a dudes career to know that he has poor foot work... or terrible stamina.... or NO defense....

it just takes ONE fight to see a glaring weakness...

In seeing ONE jermain taylor fight its clear to see that

    jermain taylor is not defensive
jermain taylor does not deal with pressure very well
    jermain taylor is mentally weak
    jermain taylor has poor stamina

so like I say again... martinez IS the 2nd best opponent pavlik has ever fought...

And this man, you really need to stop with that. Anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot? Based on your post history I don't hold your opinion of boxers in very high regard, but it's still your opinion and you're welcome to it, as little as I may think of it. This is a forum it's for sharing ideas.

Really? In watching one Paul Williams fight I could easily get the idea that he's an electric puncher, a devastating KO artist and just an all around monster.

Of course if I watched the other time he fought Quintana, I wouldn't have those opinions.

I could not disagree more with you that you only need to watch a fighter fight one time to create an educated opinion on him. It's borderline absurd.
