The thread said 2nd biggest challenge not 2nd most talented.
I didnt expect Martinez to win, I must admit. I remember him being floored and hurt by a much lesser fighter in England years back.
Even though Pavlik lost, it was to a talented but smaller fighter coming off a loss. When Pavlik contended for his MW title Taylor was an undefeated MW champ, Pavlik gave Taylor an immediate rematch at SMW giving natural size away, later Pavlik went up 2 divisions to meet the #1 Ring LHW (under The Ring LHW champ) Hopkins, giving size away again. These are challenges at that time.
Now Martinez has beaten Pavlik, then a return would be a big challenge.
When Tyson lost to Buster Douglas no one thought it was his biggest challenge, ie Martinez who had been stopped at WW wasnt his 2nd biggest challenge in my opinion. But fair play to Martinez in getting a great win.

Why is it when Bute beats a Miranda that's been knocked out twice, and lost 4 times, he's some kind of beast, but when Pavlik hands Miranda his first KO, he's a bum who is fighting nobodies....

    Boxing revisionism.
