Sadly, the end is nigh for Hatton.

Number 8 in a ranking system is not 'fringe' and its a fight Hatton won. Either way, this is a sidetrack. Not being able to beat top welterweights doesn't mean you arn't a very good jr welterweight.

He is a very good junior welter indeed. It's a shame his skills are not transferable above bullying and physically outmuscling opponents.

Which is the long way of saying he's a natural 140 lber, right?

So 'very skilled' 140 lbers can put on 7 lbs and beat 'fringe' 147 lbers. But a post or two ago you were dismissive of the 7lb gap as though it is an irrelevance. This latest post seems to acknowledge the weight gap IS significant.

I don't think you really know what your point is do you? Cos I sure can't work out what you are saying.

We are all agreed. This feels like a defining moment. Hatton has little boxing skill :happy

    Yes I suppose so.

Like TFFP says really, Hatton's biggest strengths are his physical advantages and his superior strength over his opponents at 140.

He loses that at 147 because even though he's an underrated boxer at times he doesn't have the boxing skills needed to overcome the slight physical disadvantages he holds up there.

Would Margarito be as effective at 154? Probably not.

Does anyone criticise him for that? He's the best 147 fighter and it doesn't matter what his style is, brains or brawn. It wins fights.

This idea that the physical aspect of the sport is somehow invalid is embarassingly stupid, it's the real last chance saloon of excuses.

No, we are agreed that the skills Hatton has at 140 are not transferable to 147. Thats all. You seem to think that being able to outmuscle, outwork and wear down your opponents are negative attributes. Boxing would be boring if all the fighters were Willie Pep.

Fair enough. Can't argue with that. The question is WHY should he put himself at a disadvantage anyway. But at least we agree that moving up is a disadvantage for the smaller man.

TFFP and Betty claim the gap between the divisions is irrelevant - it clearly isn't.

But next week they'll no doubt sing a different tune, it just depends what point they are trying to prove.

Wouldn't say he has LITTLE boxing skill, thats waay to harsh. He boxed Malignaggis head off without using his strength

Against Collazo,he exerted too much energy because Collazo was a natuarlly bigger man and as you say his style is using stength and bullying opponents. Thats why he had nowt left at the end.
Its just stating the obvious to say he would struggle against big 147 pounders as his style has been the same his entire career and wont work there.

And Collazo broke his hand in the 3rd round and Mosley is arguably an ATG.
What if Hatton beats Pac? What will the excuse be from you haters? Pac was too small? Really a Bantamweight? Shot?

Think of them now, just in case.

Especially when Kessler refuses to step up 7lbs to LH to take fights that he says he can't get at 168....but of course, I may just be being unfair :think
