    Saensak Muangsurin's (Professional Debut)

    Saturday - November 16, 1974

Hua Mark Stadium - Bangkok, Thailand

    Promoter; Lope Sarreal

    Attendance; 9500

    Saensak 'Boomsong' Muangsurin
    Age..........24 years, 3 months
    Height.......5' 7 1/2"
    Weight......140 lbs.
    Record......0-0-0

    Rudy 'The Wild Philippine' Barro
    Age..........23 years, 5 months
    Height.......5' 7"
    Weight......139 lbs.
    Record......24-10-0 (9 KO's)

Promoter, Pope Sarreal, looking to make a 'big splash' for debuting Saensak Muangsurin, offers
Rudy Barro an 'exuberant' fight purse of $20,000 to come to Bangkok. On paper, it looks
like to be a 'mismatch', with an experienced Top-ranked boxer facing a Muay-Thai fighter with
not one conventional boxing match under his belt.

Rudy Barro, 'Mr. Upset', the Filipino-American from Stockton, California.

Rudy Barro is ranked as the #1 WBA Lightweight and #4 WBC Light-Welterweight, and
also the #3 Lightweight by 'Ring Magazine'.

Rudy, has a 'tentative' Championship Title bout set with WBC Light-Welterweight - Perico Fernandez
    in Spain for January 1975.

What appears to be an 'easy pay-day' of $20,000 - Rudy travels to Bangkok, Thailand to
supposedly put away a 'popular' Muay-Thai fighter making his professional debut.

    The Fight;

After a 15-second feeling out period, Rudy Barro in his usual 'Wild Swinging Attack-Mode', immediately
goes after the 'southpaw' Thai-fighter with both hands, winging in hard hooks to the head and body.

After landing a couple of good punches, Rudy backs Saensak to the ropes, where he 'wildly' swings,
putting all his power into his punches, in an attempt to take out Saensak in the '1st-Round'.

After a sharp right to the body, and a double left hook to the body then the head, Rudy Barro drops his
left hand while trying throw a bomb right hand, when 'Kaboom', Saensak counters with a perfect
right hook to the jaw, flattening Rudy Barro in a 'crumbled heep', where the Referee - Vichien Sathanondchai
counts him out at 0:58 of the '1st-Round'.

    Flea Man,,,,

Is this correct also - Saeb Sang Muang Surin

    Some information.

Martin Miranada (Fight Manager for WBC Champion - Perico Fernandez) was at that Bangkok fight,
to scout Rudy Barro for the upcoming 'January 1975' title bout defense against his fighter.

Of course, that 'Title Bout' was cancelled.

This is where Martin Miranda was first offered 'Big Pesetas' to bring Perico to Bangkok, Thailand.

Following Saensak's victory over Rudy Barro, the 1-0-0 (1 KO) 'Boomsong' was ranked as
    the #8 WBC Light-Welterweight.

Though 'Fight Promoter' Pope Sarreal wanted to put together a WBC Light-Welterweight
Championship bout between 'Saensak' and 'Spaniard' Perico Fernandez, WBC President
Mexican - Ramon G. Velazquez said that the WBC would not approve a Championship
bout for a '1-bout' Professional, under 'no circumstances'.

Before Saensak fought Lion Furuyama in February 1975

    WBC Ratings

    *** Perico Fernandez
    #1.. Joao Henrique
    #2.. Hector Thompson
    #3.. Lion Furuyama
    #4.. Ali Afakasi
    #5.. Monroe Brooks
    #6.. Emiliano Villa
    #7.. Chang-Kil Lee
    #8.. Saensak Muangsurin
    #9.. Rudy Barro
    #10 Tony Petronelli
    #11 Cemal Kamaci

WBC President - Ramon G. Velazquez did state that the WBC would approve a Championship Bout
with Saensak, if and only if, he won a Asian-Pacific Light-Welterweight Title or defeated another
Top 10 ranked fighter with a WBC Representative on hand to 'witness' the bout.

    The Skinny

    Saturday - February 16, 1975

    Lion Furuyama

The 27 year-old veteran 'southpaw', is as tough as they come. The 'long time' Japanese Light-Welterweight
    Champion, with a record of 31-7-3 (22 KO's).

Currently ranked as the #3 WBC Light-Welterweight, and still 'in-line' for a Title shot at the World
Welterweight Championship. Lion, has the 'badge' of going the distance with both current Light-Welterweight
Champions (WBA - Antonio Cervantes) and (WBC - Perico Fernandez). Lion, is regarded as the best
body puncher in the 140 lb. division, and as having one of the best chins.

    Flea Man,

In Spain, Saensak was well known as,

    'Sombra del Diablo'

Also, found a 'press release' by Luis Marin Beccoral and Lope Sarreal, with
the winner of the January 15, 1977 - Saensak Muangsurin vs. Monroe Brooks bout
signed to fight Perico Fernandez 'next' in Nice, France in April 1977.

But somehow, former WBC Lightweight Champion - Ishimatsu 'Guts' Suzuki was
snuck in for Tokyo in April 1977.

    Flea Man,

Very difficult to get any detailed information on the 'first' Saensak versus
    Lion Furuyama.

    The Saturday - February 16, 1975 bout.

Only article to be had, states that Saensak took control in Round 4, with hard
straight punches into the Japan fighter's mid-section.

And that Lion Furuyama was looking for a 'place-to-hide' in Round 6, after absorbing
a bad battering to the body.

    Flea Man,

    One more,

The Aragonese also called Saensak 'The Diabolical Witch'

They even sent a reporter from El Mundo Deportivo to the
Province of Phetchabun, to check out to see if Saensak was
put under some kind of spell prior to his fight.

It was determined that his enormous strength had to come from
some kind of spell or potion. No 140 lb. fighter ever had that kind
of punching power, or the ability to absorb tremendous punches
    without flinching.

Perico Fernandez stated, 'I hit him with terrifying punches, that no
man could take. And he just smiled and laughed at me'.

    Flea Man,

To get the #4 WBC-ranked Lion Furuyama 31-7-3 (22 KO's) to come to Bangkok,
    Thailand in Febraury 1975 -

Lope Sarreal had to offer him a 'large fight purse', more than he received for
fighting Antonio Cervantes and Perico Fernandez.

In U.S. Dollars, it was equivalant to $30,000.

Another 15,000 fans turned up at the Hua Mark Stadium for the WBC-Elimination bout.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japan Newspapers said, Lion was battered in the 7th Round, and saved from further punishment
by the Referee, after being hit with numerous left hands.

Lion stated, 'I want to fight him again, but next time in my home country.
He is a hard man to fight in Bangkok, with all his fans'.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following this bout, Fight Promoter Lope Sarreal offered Martin Miranda (Perico Fernandez' manager)
$60,000 U.S. Dollars for Perico to fight Saensak in Bangkok.

    Flea Man,

Did you know Esteban De Jesus was supposed to fight Saensak Muangsurin in
October 1978, but the fight was 'post-poned'.

On October 27, 1978 at Madison Square Garden, Esteban defeated Edwin Viruet by a
    10-Round 'Split-Decision'.

After the bout, Don King said that he had an agreement with Lope Sarreal, to
have Esteban De Jesus challenge Saensak Muangsurin for the WBC Light-Welterweight
    Championship.

    Friday Night - December 30, 1977

    Chantaburi, Thailand

    Jo Kimpuani

From Zaire, but lived in Dunkrik, France.

Was a mechanic in Zaire, and then worked in the 'shipyards' of Dunkirk.

    Was 28 years-old, with a record of 38-1-0 (23 KO's).

That record and 'French Connections' got him to the #1 WBC Light-Welterweight.

Record built up, by defeating pretty much the 'B-Level' Light-Welterweights in France and Europe.

At 5' 7", was powerfully built, with a good left jab, and hammering
right-hand. A diligent hard worker in the ring, and was always in great
    physical shape.

Was able to get some good right hands in on Saensak in the early going,
and was ahead through 4 Rounds.

Things started to come apart in Round 5 for 'Zaire' Jo, as a result of Saensak's
hard left fist, which resulted in a 'cut' on the left eye.

From Round 6 and on, Saensak put on a 'steady assault' slowly wearing down the
    'muscular' Jo Kimpuani.

In Rounds 11, 12 and 13 - the Thai-fighter targeted the damaged eye of the Challenger
with his lethal left hand, opening the cut, causing blood to flow down Kimpuani's face.

In between Round 13 and Round 14, the Referee on the advice from the Ringside Physician
stopped the bout, as the Zaire-born French-based fighter was not in good condition.

Saensak Muangsurin was ahead on all the scorecards at the time of stoppgae.

    Scorecards;
    Referee - Diaz (Mexico)............128-121 (9-2-2 in Rounds)
Judge - Marcello Bertini (Italy)...128-124 (6-2-5 in Rounds)
Judge - Youseff Karnee (Egypt)..128-122 (8-2-3 in Rounds)

It goes down as a TKO 14 win for the WBC Champion.
