Inspired by the "evolution of the slugger" thread.

A prehistoric swarmer against a modern slickster.

Lets make the fight at the 190lb cruiserweight limit so that Byrd dosn't carry a mountain of extra muscle. Set the limit at a neutral 15 rounds.

Would Sharkeys style be suficiently timeless for him to prevail?

I agree that the fight should be at 190lbs, but Byrd didn't exactly carry a mountain of extra muscle.

Just trying to avoid a big creatin induced disparity so that we can cut straight to the stylistic issue.

Sharkey was 185lbs for the Jeffries fight, so if Byrd has to make 190, then that is fair.

Sharkey was 183lbs,but he often scaled around 178/180lbs.
    Byrd takes a comfortable decision.

How would we know without video footage? Byrd beat swarmer/slugger Tua and swarmer boxer Holyfield but lost to Ibeabuchi, Sharking wouldn't be nearly as imposing as Ibeaubuchi though. So Byrd has pedigree against the style to be fair to him

BTW Byrd wouldnt have to diet to make weight, his walk around weight was less than his fight weight

On the flip side, Sharkey seems to have been the only fighter who realy handeled Jim Corbett on the cards (before Jeffries in his last fight).

Fitzsimmons and Jeffries had to come from behind to win, but Sharkeys swarming style seems to have neutralised Corbett!

Byrd was a slickster and tough and Sharkey was as strong as they come and a pressure fighter...this fight can go either-way...tough fight to pick but in a 10 rounder I like Byrd by a decision but going to 15-20 I like Sharkey by a stop
