I don't get why boxers and promoters feel the need to air their dirty laundry in public. Pretty classless if you ask me...

Smith is just a deluded *****. He honestly believes he's a big name who could sell out arenas and deserves massive paydays. The ****er needs to get it into his thick skull that all he is a decent domestic level fighter at best.

We don't know the actual offer but I seriously doubt it was ****, just Smith's ego has probably made him think it was beneath him.

He's 30 and has never boxed above British level. He doesn't have many other options so why he's turning down a shot at the British title in his hometown I don't know, regardless of money. A big-headed fool in my opinion.

The issue here is that Hearn has made out he doesn't ask for options, offer loans pay deals, etc. He does and people say he's open and honest.

tony bellew cant sell out that arena thats why nearly every active scouser fighter has been named to be on that card.

in those interviews hearn has said no promoter makes any money - so why do they bother??

whats the point of them doin it?? whos talking shite??

hearn basically said the boxing promotion is bein supported by darts money or whatever yet he says he wants 50 shows a year on sky

    whats supporting w@rren??

have fighters gotta start taking less money?? derry matthews was turnin fights down on twitter over money last week now smith

In fairness Smith has nearly filled the ECHO a few times now, he sells big ticket numbers in Liverpool, **** knows how he does but he does.

Smith won't get a British title shot anytime soon unless he takes this fight. Even if the money isn't great the money he would gain from winning this is going to be much more significant than what he would get otherwise.

    Why is anyone surprised?

Hearn couldn't afford to pull McCloskey a half decent opponent, couldn't get Froch on Showtime or HBO for his fights in the UK etc etc.

He sold a lot of tickets when he twice fought in the Echo Arena in British title defences (against other local Liverpudlians Tony Dodson and Tony Quigley) when he had some credibility as a fighter and was the only scouser with a name in boxing. This was about 2 years ago when David Price and Tony Bellew were only novices and weren't very well known.

Since then Smith has fell well down the pecking order. Price is now Liverpool's top drawer fighter, followed closely by Bellew and Rocky Fielding is probably 3rd. Nobody gives a **** about Smith anymore, about time he accepted that. His last fight wasn't against some journeyman in the Olympia for no reason.

TBH it's all Smith deserves, Eddie seems to have offered a few deals to him and he's turned them down. Looks like Smith doesn't want to fight on a Matchroom card IMO..

It's only a matter of time before this goes to purse bids. Just take a look at the domestic SMW scene - not a lot out there. Smith must be figuring that he stands to make more from a purse bid than what Eddie's offering him at the moment.

Look at the attendance when Bellew fought Danny Mac it was no where near full, after David Price Paul Smith is the second biggest ticket seller in Liverpool not in my opinion that's a fact so it smart for Eddie to try get him on the show but not for **** money

Nah, Bellew's still a good draw in Liverpool, especially now that he's being promoted properly by Matchroom who do wonders to increase a fighter's fanbase. The Macintosh fight sold about 3000-4000 I think which is still a decent number when you consider that the undercard was beyond crap and had nobody on it.

Dave Coldwell won the purse bids for that fight and he's only a small hall promoter, he doesn't have any experience in promoting big arena shows so the ticket sales inevitably suffered a bit because of this.

The March event will be sold out, trust me. Whether Smith's on it or not.
