    Re-evaluation Thread
George Groves born 03/26/88 is a 5'11.5 Super Middleweight with a 28-3 20 KO's record. I knew that such a huge step up that early in Georgy Porgy's career would ultimately backfire and blow up in his face, he was far too young and inexperienced to take on an iron chinned warrior like Froch, the veteran I figured would be far too much for him especially since he struggled against Degale. And I was right but much to my shock and chagrin he dropped and boxed the ears off of Froch for the first 6 or 7 rounds, but even as I watched the fight on the edge of my seat I knew Carl would find a way to rip victory from the jaws of certain defeat. The ref stopped it way too early but the writing was on the wall the match was only going to end one way and that would have been Groves being brutally stopped.
Groves displeased with the stoppage campaigned for a rematch that I knew would be a failure for him as well, and somewhere in the back of his mind the psychological imprint left by the last 2 rounds had to be dancing somewhere inside of that thinning ginger haired head of his, but he wanted it anyway, and it ran right to the script that many had predicted, he got KTFO but still he should be given credit for his noble failures.

I can't help but to be struck by the odd similarities between the career of Saint George Groves and the myth around the real Saint George. Saint George went to the land of Nicomedia to work as a soldier for Emperor Diocletian but he wouldn't stop being a Christian and stuck to his beliefs and he got executed for them and somewhere along the way he tried to slay a Dragon. After his execution he became a Martyr for his faith.
Well Groves tried to take on Froch the Emperor and tried to slay Froch the Dragon and got KTFO for his troubles. Not a great ****ogy but whatever.

George should be considered a boxing martyr, unlike so many coddled up and coming stars who stay protected by their promoters and duck any and every threat in order to protect their undefeated record, he tried to take on the top guy and failed, and tried again and once again failed, but that's what real boxers do they keep trying no matter how many times the fall down. George is still young and incredibly talented and has the potential to be a future champion and we shouldn't write him off for his 2 noble failures that he knew he could possibly go miserably for him, but he tried anyway. There should be more guys in the sport like the brave redheads Canelo and George. :ggg:ggg:ggg:ggg

I think he can still make waves, but his stardom was really dependent on that rematch with Froch, and we all know what happenend.

No matter what he does and how successful he becomes, his name will forever be linked to the Froch fights.

He could beat GGG and people will whisper Froch
He could beat Ward and people will whisper Froch
He could move to LH people will still whisper Froch.

Same as Vitali-Lewis. No mater what Vitali does, he will always be remembered for the Lewis fight.

Groves is a really good fighter and at least he can look at himself and say I had the balls to fight a top fighter . To many fighters around today don't or won't fight top fighters . Groves will be a world champion one day

    Well said, agreed.

Groves is a top fighter not arsed about protecting his '0' taking fights that get him knowhere or an easy route that won't see him improve as as a fighter.

    World champion in waiting.

What are your thoughts on Daniyar Yeleussinov, who won the gold medal in welterweight at last years World Amateur Championships?

He's good but he's a little too much of a runner for my taste, and abit reckless at times. But with some fine tuning he could become very impressive.

I still really like George and his talents, but Froch just had his number. What matters most is how he comes back mentally from those two losses. He has to compartmenatlize it somehow

He still has a future, he lost to one of the best and there's no shame it that.

Though it's pretty clear the first fight with Froch flattered his ability. Froch clearly didn't take him seriously and fought well below his normal level. The rematch didn't go the way he and many others expected, Froch boxed him and did so with more success than many thought possible. The one punch KO also raises questions about his chin.
