Hi guys, Wanted to jump on and thank everyone who supported and sent messages for Sakio and his last fight. A proud Australian/Cameroonian, he joined Daniel Geale as Australia's only current world boxing champions. He also became the first Cameroonian to win a boxing world title. It's all appreciated, so keep supporting Sakio. All the best, Team Bika
Great to see him WiN the WBC Title, ive seen this guy in the Gym countless times Training his Heart out..All the Hard Work paid off,,3 Cheers for Sakio..
Guy is a warrior but unfortunately he lacks the skills to beat the top Super Middles in Froch, Ward, Kessler. Oosthuizen, Stieglitz may be weaker beltholders, though. We'll need a rematch with Periban after his homecoming. Congrats to Bika.
Very happy for Sakio, was disappointed in some of the things said about his performance, Sakio has better Boxing Skills than he's given credit for but people don't understand that there is more to deal with than just your opponent when you fight. If you take into account what he must have been going through (mentally & emotionally) you can understand better why he fought the way he did against Perbian? Sakio had to relocate to America without his family & train with who Haymon wanted him too for 6 weeks prior to his fight, missing the birth of his daughter. He has come through the hard way & at 34 he knew it was the final shot he'd ever get at a Title, to make it worse he was fighting a young undefeated Mexican on a Golden Boy promotion. All that emotion would've drained anyone, he didn't care how he won, he was just desperate to win. Boxing is a tough game, sometimes the hardest battles are in the lead up to a fight, anyone who becomes a real World Champion deserves respect. I know that everyone will see a different Sakio Bika next time he gets into the ring! Sorry for the rant but had to get it off my chest. Birchy
I thought that as well before seeing both their last fights........ Froch would handle Bika fairly comfortable even probably stopping him.
Great post Birchy, really appreciate the insight. Makes Sakio's win all the more meritorious. The pressure he was under would have been enormous. He can defend his title in a much more confident & relaxed frame of mind. Hopefully it's for the big pay day he deserves.
Let's hope we see a better performance next time, I know the Brits were bagging Sakio out and reckon they have 10 fighters between 160 -175lbs that would handle him...... That said, Sakio did look average last fight and is capable of better. The only problem I have is that highlighted bit, Ward is the real holder of that belt so until he beats Ward he's not the real champion of that particular belt :good
Ward was stripped of the belt by the WBC. Ward, in response, released a statement saying he was from that day forth vacating his belt. The WBC #1 Sakio Bika fought WBC #3 Marco Antonio Periban for the vacant belt. Soon after winning the vacant belt the WBC listed Sakio as their new champion. Titles have been stripped and vacated many times over the years. Do the new champions have to go and fight the one who was stripped or vacated? Does this mean that if Andre Ward retires tomorrow the WBC belt will be his forever since nobody beat him? Lol Sakio Bika is a World Champion and no critics of him out there can change the record books just because they don't like it.
So the brits reckon they have 10 guys between 160-175 that would handle Sakio. Well I will have Sakio draw a big line through those 10 names then. Whoever these brits are it sounds pretty legit. Might actually go straight to Al Haymon and tell him not to take any phonecalls from Great Britain under any circumstances. Seriously, for all the hate on Sakio and some peoples negative opinion, the fact is he has been a top contender for a long time and you don't sit in or around the top 10 for so many years without being a good fighter. You don't stay in the mix and become a world champion on your fourth attempt if you haven't got it. Cheers.
It's surprising how many Boxers look very beatable when u see them on tv, they look a little different when you're seeing them from across the ring? Every Boxer has been guilty of it at some time, normally just makes for an ugly fight, with Sakio that mistake in judgement is usually quite painful as well! Birchy
