Bas didn't much have much of a ground game to speak of during his supposed "prime", so I don't know if I agree with the general sentiment of this thread. It's very possible it goes the way of Saku's fight with a green Cro Cop, but I could just as easily see Saku pulling off a submission were he to get it to the ground beforehand.
Bas didn't really defend takedowns all that well, he relied on his underrated ground game instead, this would not work at all against Sakuraba. Sakuraba has beaten equally dangerous strikers, I would give him the edge.
This was part of my thinking, although I'm not sure if he beat anyone truly greater than Bas. Igor was probably the best striker he faced IMO, problem was he was ****ed after an hour and a half of kicking a Brazilian
