As long as there is breath in Sakuraba he will fight. That man wont retire and dont expect him to any time soon. The problem isnt Japanese MMA its him. He LOVES fighting. The fact he's put his body through so much doesn't even seem to matter to him any more. He was hardly even phased by the fact he's ear was half falling off. For years he's ears have been like that. All he does is cover it over with some tape and out he goes to fight again. Think of him as the Holyfield of MMA. Only an incredibly serious and potentially life threatening injury will stop Sakuraba from competing.
Sakuraba in his prime might very well have been the best p4p fighter in MMA history, good strikes (especially with kicks), master submission specialist, excellent wrestler, always remains calm no matter what, the heart of a lion & a true genius at coming up with moves out of nothing + he was essentially a MW fighting mostly LHWs with the odd LW, MW & HW thru in to keep him busy. He is a complete shell of himself now no doubt but no matter how many bums beat him now you cant erase his prime from record.... & that my friends is what counts most of all.
Bill Butcher, I know you love Saku, but the man doesnt compare to the prime of GSP, Silva, Fedor, Rua ...
Sakuraba displayed the sort of skillset that would allow him to win in today's MMA back in his hayday.. His issue was that he fought to entertain first, to win second, if you even want to call that an issue. Because of that, he is held in such high esteem. He's a fighters fighter.
Yep, He is a warrior, no doubt about that. He was very more exciting than GSP but that cost him in fights, and probably some years too...
The difference is Saku cared about his fans and about making THEM happy, GSP just wants the W and doesn't really care if he looks good or gains fans or loses fans for that matter. I like GSP as a person but he disappoints me to watch him fight. I just wish he would take a chance once in a while. Damn you Matt Serra!!!!!
I agree that no one as of yet can match fedor for achievements, but why doesnt Sakuraba compare in his prime to Gsp, Silva, Rua?
Alot of cauliflower ears seem bloody. They may want to make a rule that you need to drain them once a year or something, so as to avoid injury and make MMA look cleaner.
You think thats bad? Take a look at Uchiyama's ear.. Why the **** they wont get them drained i dont know. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
That's worse than when Magarito used his brick fists to knock off Lujan's ear on Friday Night Fights.
