This looks to be the bright spot of the upcoming Latin Fury PPV this weekend, and it would be nice to hear people sound off on what should be a real dark horse.

This will also be Salvador's biggest exposure to date, and an opportunity to do a bit of contrast and compare with his legendary uncle. Obviously the apple fell far enough from the tree (or the tree's sibling, anyway) that there isn't any latent greatness evident in the kid, but he's still a capable boxer-puncher with a mean streak when it comes to the body, and knows how to put on a show.

Villa, for his part, is a no-quit punch-his-guts-out type who pushed Rogers Mtagwa to the absolute brink before Mtagwa did the very same to the hyped Juan Manuel Lopez.

Common opponent: trial horse Trinidad Mendoza, who Sanchez knocked out in three (as seen above), and Villa stopped via TKO in the 6th.

Apparently, on Boxrec, he has a TBD opponent on July 17 in Mexico as well.

The Mtagwa fight took a ton out of Villa. He hasn't looked the same since.

I think top rank is matching Sanchez II very carefully and doing careful research on his opponents before putting them in there with him because they realize how raw he is. So i'll say Sanchez II wide UD

Do you think SS2 can get the stoppage if he forces it?

    :bump

I was wrong, and man enough to admit it!

It turned out to be an okay fight, but nowhere near as exciting as the main event (this one fell short of expectations, while Chavez-Duddy far exceeded them).

Sanchez also disappointed in his individual performance - way too scared of mixing it up with someone who had a reputation for toughness, and still wound up being too open to right hands despite fighting defensively.

It's hard to live up to a big name.

Props to Villa for grinding out the much-deserved win at a point when his career didn't seem to have much gas left in the tank - and to the judges for not taking it away from him.

I dont know why anybody was excited about sanchez in the first place. WHen i first saw him i knew right off the bat that he was a C level fighter. This wasn't even an upset.

Well...Villa was never A level himself, and has been through some knock-down drag-out wars. This looked very competitive going in (and might have been had Sanchez not turned into a wuss, since he did have the faster hands and got the better of the inside exchanges).
