this was his FIRST FIGHT at 135lbs with no tuneup fight at that weight and he fought the champ but there was no issue about needing a tuneup fight or easing into a division. thats why I don't get the Hatton was ineffective at 147lbs. a fighter DOES NOT KNOW how they will fight with the added weight vs naturally bigger guys thats the challenge of going up in weight.

floyd is probably the best 130 pounder H2H of all time. the fight would likely take place there as sanchez was considering moving up at the time so that's a decent place to put the fight. we didn't see enough of sanchez to be sure but he was seriously troubled by nelson (who was a slick, smart fighter even at that time) and excelled against brawlers and boxer-punchers who came right at him like lopez and gomez. for me, it may have been proven otherwise later, if sanchez struggled mightily with a green nelson, he'd lose to a prime mayweather

    Mayweather would win.
It is his best weight and he's the better boxer.

I could be wrong but wasn't the fight with Augustus, Floyd's first at 135?

Anyway, I favour Floyd H2H against anyone at 130. He was the best I've ever seen at that weight.

Sanchez was an amazing fighter himself - one of the best Featherweights ever. I just can't back him to move up a weightclass and beat someone who would not only have been the best fighter he ever faced but also had the style to really trouble him.

    Floyd by decision.

fair analysis and while mayweather is probably around the same level of gomez, bazooka is made for him and mayweather, as you noted, would be a stylistic nightmare

on the same token people also tend to harshly overrate modern fighters. Yes, Floyd had more ko's and tko's in the lighter weights. You gonna tell me because Floyd destroyed Corrales and Juuko with all due respect he's gonna do the same to Sanchez? I think Nelson would of done the same to Corrales. Sorry I don't buy it. I don't think Sanchez was as slick or as fast as Floyd, but he wasn't too far behind. Sanchez died at 23, so most likely we hadn't seen the best of him yet. Floyd at that stage wasn't the defensive master he was today, I'd favor a defensive version of Floyd over Sanchez, but Sanchez had an iron chin and Floyd at 130 didn't have those skills, so Floyd was much more hittable and he was willing to trade. Sanchez was also very tactical and he'd have the edge in experience having beaten Gomez and Nelson, while Floyd's biggest win at 130 was Corrales. Sanchez hadn't been in too many wars and his face hardly ever got marked. I think Floyd would win the first rounds, Sanchez with his footwork would start catching Floyd and force him to throw more and make more mistakes. Sanchez rarely missed either. Sanchez was originally a brawler before he turned boxer/puncher so he'd be more than happy to fight in the trenches with Floyd. I also don't think Sanchez would be looking for a ko, while Floyd would and try to fight more aggressively. Sanchez would have Floyd in serious trouble in the later rounds with a sustained attack, unimpressed with anything Floyd throws and strictly attackes Floyd's body with jabs and then goes upstairs with the right hand and avoid Floyd's right. Sanchez's own footwork would confuse Floyd. Sanchez by Split Decision or a draw
