After seeing someone mention this a couple of times in another thread, I really started to think about this question. Salido has proven himself constantly to be a hell of a fighter, and I think people have overlooked that for the last few years. Maidana on the other hand has been both underrated and overrated in some ways, particularly because of his last fights with Floyd and Broner. Maidana is a heck of a fighter too but I also think he just simply got lucky in that he was a welterweight when the division was popular. Thus Maidana fought a couple of more "named" fighters, but that doesn't translate into better fighters than what Salido has faced. What do you guys think? I think it s a toss up, but right now after last nights fight against Vargas...i'm starting to lean towards Salido being the overall better fighter.
Salido is indeed better. He's underrated. He beat Robert Guerrero with ease but the fight changed to NC. He KTFO'd Juanma Lopez twice when it meant something. He got a hard-earned win over future p4p #1 Lomachenko. And he deserved wins over Roman Martinez and Francisco Vargas in his last 2 fights.
Definitely, I've never rated Maidana all that highly. Another fight Salido rarely gets credit for is his match against Marquez, he closed very well, I gave him 4 or 5 rounds, even though he lost he did a lot better than most people gave him credit especially against a fighter of JMM's caliber. And he's also a ****ing warrior who's willing to walk through hellfire and brimstone to win, doesn't he deserve some credit for that? As far as the positive against Guerrero the test they took from the next day he passed it.
Salido is better than Maidaina certainly. In his prime years only the very elite were able to defeat him. Marquez, Gamboa and Garcia. Other were able to take round off him but none took 7 clear. He can enforce his will upon all but the elite.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate. I don't like cheats so can't really look past his many transgressions. I'm sure I could have success against far more talented fighters if I cheated them on the scales and persistently fouled them in ring after having doped up on nandrolone. He personifies the darker side of ambition IMO.
Ditto with everyone here. He's on the level just short of those who were complete and utter elites - but even then he posed as a big danger to the total elites. If you're off your game, he'll probably steal the fight. I completely forgot he beat a featherweight (better) version of Robert Guerrero. Salido passed the drugs test after the fight. Because of Guerrero's size and frame, he was actually a good featherweight because he was a decent bully, but got bullied by the ultimate bully - Salido). He's a cheater, but this is the pros..not the amateurs. The motto is 'do whatever you can get away with to win'.
Ask Juanma if Salido is better than Maidana. Salida is a solid A- level fighter. Maidana is a B, maybe B+
