Yes I felt this is extremely odd. The politics here didn't seem to make sense. Why would they bother to protect Salido?... It doesn't make sense, its not like he had an "0" to protect. I thought if anything they were going to rob salido even if he won... (Just like in Bradley Pac I...) TRANK always seems to do whatever will make them the most money (giving the "fan favorites" wins when they don't actually deserve them...) maybe Top Rank just feels Lomachenko wouldn't be much of a draw and would end up being another Rigodeaux....
People can point fingers all they want but at the end of the day the main person to blame in my opinion is Loma himself. Firstly, dealing with a dirty/boarderline fighter is something you are going to have to deal with in the pros. Loma said in the buildup he was prepared for the dirty tactics so it wasn't as if it was unexpected. Secondly, he fought poorly imo. He threw away the first 3-4 rounds by being so tentative, it was hard to believe how gun-shy he was. I think he was more concerned about conserving stamina and expecting it to go 12 than actually focusing on landing scoring punches. His jab was almost non-existant, and he initiated 90% of the clinches, sometimes he simply walked in and clinched. He didn't throw shots with any intent until the 11th round and when he did he hurt Salido. But its not as if he gave it his all and left it in the ring, I think he will be kicking himself because looking back he will think he could have done a lot more. I admire him for going for greatness but he looked somewhat off last night. I think he can go on to win world titles and he should learn from the experience. But I think we have to be realistic, that he just wasn't good enough on the night.
Fully agree with all the points here except for the last one. Lomachenko actually had a fan friendly style and his attempt at a world title in only his second professional fight was going to make him famous enough to eventually be a draw. There is something else going on down under because the entire event wasn't normal. Why the hell would they send ANY fighter against a Mexican in Texas unless something is being cooked down under?. Everyone knew that Alvarez vs Trout, despite Alvarez winning fairly, being scheduled in Texas was a clear move from Golden Boy to protect him in his first risky fight. Why the hell did Arum pick Texas and better yet why the hell wasn't Lomachenko advised to pull out of the fight when Salido failed to make weight?
You are looking for excuses so that you don't have to deal with the fact that Loma lost primarily because he wasn't good enough and didn't do enough on the night.
Greetings once again Mr. "You don't have to be a boxing fan to follow boxing", it's impressive that an idiot like you still manages to breath consistently without screwing up. Excuses?, the weight advantage is an excuse or a fact?. Oh wait, I'm sure your response is going to be "It's useless to make weight in boxing".
Overcome weight and hometown advantages in only his second professional fight?. Sure thing, cabdriver.
What home advantage? Salido ain't from Texas. Also, if you're too inexperienced to fight a champ in your second fight, then don't take the freaking fight this early in your career?! What shitty excuse is that? We knew beforehand that Loma had no pro experience but his 400 amateur fights were supposed to carry him through the fight - they didn't.
Salido ruined our party, he had a plan and it worked I suspect Loma didn't even master rehydration pro style, so the weight advantage was more pronounced Congrats for Salido...Respect for Loma...He tried & I hope he takes Donaire next, as I feel that's a better fight
Mexican fighters don't get advantages fighting in Texas? , ******. Was he fighting a champ in his second fight?, as far as I remember the title was only on the line for Lomachenko and is now currently vacant because the cheating scumbag failed to make weight. Carry on now, jackass.
There was a lot of low punches but welcome to the pros, its dirty anything goes until ref warns you, as someone said it was arrogant from Lomachenko to fight Salido who fought great PRO fight, every time ref was on opposite side he punched hip leg etc and off course there was punches ref had to see but so many really covered good, and Salido thrown much more punches something important in pro game, there was a lot of close rounds he got on activity even though Loma was more accurate he pretty much fought like its amateur scoring...he will have good and maybe great career but his team was arrogant transition from amateur to pro game goes slow 4 rounders than 6 8 10, and slowly fighting better opposition, his team thought they are smarter than every boxing trainer/team that slowly brings up fighter and now they learned the hard way, really STUPID move from his team to fight Salido!
What's impressive is my vcash total compared to yours. Anyway. Weight was a factor but that was just one factor. Loma only showed desire to throw punches with intent in the last 2 rounds, for the majority of the fight he threw arm punches, forgot about the jab for large periods and clinched way too much. Its a pity because he showed something of what he was capable of in the last round but it was too little too late.
Holy crap you are boring He lost, just get the fuck over it. He and his team gotta live with it, not you. Not sure what makes you so emotional about a 1 fight rookie losing to a beltholder.
Yeah, his plan was to rely on Texan officiating and not making weight. Now follow his plans and you shouldn't live the rest of your life delivering Pizzas.
