[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]A renowned Filipino boxing figure told Fightnews on Monday that Manny Pacquiao deserves the lion’s share of the money in the event a proposed fight with Miguel Cotto is penciled for Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Rudy Salud, who crafted the by-laws of the World Boxing Council (WBC), also stressed that the Filipino pound-for-pound king will easily dispatch the rugged Puerto Rican “provided that they fight at a catch weight of 143 or 144 lbs.”
“It will be a walk in the park,” said Salud, who was the WBC’s secretary-general from the late 1960s until the early 1970s.
Salud said Pacquiao should be generous enough to grant Cotto a “30 percent” cut on the total pot “based on Cotto’s recent performance.”
“Cotto doesn’t bring much to the table except his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title,” said Salud, who watched Cotto fight on television against Joshua Clottey and thought that Cotto did enough to merit the decision.
Salud said outside of Puerto Rico and the New York area, Cotto doesn’t have a strong following.
Top Rank chief Bob Arum, who promotes both Pacquiao and Cotto, said he will move heaven and earth to stage the fight on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas despite the sudden announcement that the July 18 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez has been postponed.
Salud stressed that Pacquiao has the right to demand, saying he is the No. 1 attraction and anybody who challenges him should settle for a far lesser share in the total pot.
Although Salud never had a direct involvement in the way Pacquiao was brought up by his former handlers—led by long-time friend and the semi-retired Rod Nazario—Pacquiao learned a thing or two from Salud’s personal and business savvy, having spent some time with Salud during countless affairs and events.

Salud also probably wants Cotto to come into the ring one arm tied behind his back. If he says it's going to be a "walk in the park" if Cotto comes in at 143-144, why not have it a couple pounds higher at 145-146?

i think 70/30 is a little steep, if this was in miami, or in NYC with cotto's fanbase i could see him getting atleast 40%.....i still think he should get 35-40......but he didnt look great against clottey, and hatton at least looked good against malginaggi before taking on the p4p #1.....so i could understand 70/30

70/30 would be a fair offer, the "walk in the park" part also seems right.

dude quit cying with this 144-145, cotto use ta fight at 140. How come you weren't cyin then? Nah..it will be 147. Salud I think 60-40 split is reasonable. THis is like said will be the key to making the fight at $$147

And Pacquiao used to fight at 106, WTF is your point dumbass? Cotto moved up to welterweight for a reason... because he can't make weight anymore and his body readjusted itself to be comfortable at 147... Not 143 or 144.

Pac should be a real man and take the fight at the welterweight limit with a 60/40 split.

cotto cant be crazy enough to fight the pac at 143-44 that would be daft. 145 should be as low as he should go. pac is the main man at the moment but cotto brings a lot of fans to the table so 60-40 sounds fair. good fight cant pick a winner myself

Cotto was 146 for the Clottey fight on the weight in and he looked healthy. That means he can make 144 without any problems. As for the share I don't care personnally I'm not taking this money myself and they are going both to take more than enough. Just make the fight happen. In fact it's the only real money making fight for Pac at a catch weight. Obviously for Mosley making 144 is impossible and he is a smaller draw than Cotto.

This guy is delusional! Saying that at 143-144 it's going to be a walk in the park doesn't help Pacquiao either, a true champ should always step up to bigger challenges! Having said that, I think 70-30 is crazy.... Cotto does not draw any fans???????? don't know of too many that can potentially draw as much as him right now.... this guy is either on a Ritalin overdose or still living in the 70-80's.... NOBODY IS A BIG DRAW IN BOXING ANYMORE. It's not like we are in the boxing golden years anymore. Wake-up a'hole!!!

I think Cotto is a pretty good draw anywhere. 70/30 is a little insulting.

Honestly, I am getting a bit tired of this "catchweight" ****. Dont get me wrong, I like pacquiao, but the truth is, if he can't make 147 or doesn't feel comfortable/confident @ that weight then he needs to simply stop looking for welterweights. Sure, Pacquiao is the bigger draw but then again, he's the one who wants to fight Cotto(who is a welterweight) so why not fight him at 147? Plus, Salud's words don't sound right to me, If cotto is so easy @ 143-44(for the obvious reason he'll be weight drained), why do they want to make this fight then? In my opinion it won't really do anything to Pac's legacy, opposed to if he were to fight and beat Cotto @ welter.
