Im hearing fans crying and complaining about his "dreadful" performance Yea well too bad The bookies were shook going into this fight with damn near even money odds Gassiev destroying Dorticos in the 12th with Usyk barely getting past Breidus had everyone convinced this fight was going to be neck and neck Styles make fights And, we cannot disregard the age factor here. At 24 years old with 2 world titles, fighting for undisputed in his 20th fight?? Against an Olympic gold medalist with vastly deeper amateur background? Usyk is in his absolute beast of his prime wheres Gassiev will continue to grow Give the man his respect Whereas most fighters are taking softies at age 24
Gassiev knew he was in a much more accomplished and intelligent fighter. he needs a few years to hone his skills, a 28-30 gassiev would have put a better fight, but uysk would have still beat him convincingly. i watched a preview last night on itv and i didnt like gasssievs attitude to running, where as uysk loves training. gassiev needs to learn how to cut down the ring but also learn not make supreme boxxers look supereme, experience means alot.
He's done. He didn't show an ounce of heart in front of his home crowd fans for a title unification, and this was against an opponent who never really hurt him. Was all sportsmanlike and huggy after every round, seems like a really nice guy...and that's the problem. For his sake I hope he was severely weight-drained like Danny O'Connor and just needs to move up. Jeff Horn can't fight either, but at least he TRIED to win the fight against Crawford.
What I don't understand is... Why was he standing straight up? Why didn't he dip and pivot and try to close the distance?
Yeah, wasn't expecting that at all, didn't show heart, and was all happy that he lost.. I would have been crying and apologizing to my fans... oh well, props to Usyk, he never gave Murat a chance to get a shot off.
Yeah, Usyk is a very tough guy, fights through fatigue and is a real winner. He did what he had to do. But he couldn't make a guy who was looking for a way out for 8 rounds quit. That's going to really cost him against big guys.
He seems like a good guy...was very gracious in defeat. He is still young and will have plenty more opportunities.
He didn't refuse to throw punches, he wasn't in position to throw them. He's a guy who likes to load up on his shots and he needs time to do it at his own pace. Usyk was zipping around far too much and he kept pumping a jab in his face all night. He just didn't allow Gassiev to settle. This is a fight where he needed to adapt his style, because Usyk's is very much a counter to his own. He couldn't do that. What was exposed about Gassiev is not that he has no heart or anything like that, what was exposed was his one dimensionality and lack of ring IQ.
Usyk is a supernatural elite of the elite talent who is way more experienced and was on top of his game. Gassiev is a beast, a truly lovely guy, and the chances of him ever having to share a ring again with someone as talented as Usyk again are slim to none.
Dorticos' low boxing IQ is what made Gassiev look like a beast. Gassiev seems little more than an Arthur Abraham clone. A little bit of boxing ability and defense will befuddle him every time.
Gassiev had some impressive performances in the past. Too bad that's quickly forgotten. I think Gassiev has pretty good fundamentals. He would easily be one of the more technically skilled heavyweights if he goes up in weight.
Sanches has tried to mould him into GGG.... But he lacks the experience GGG had as an amateur to learn how to cut the ring etc. He was beaten by the more experienced man. No shame in that.
Gassiev is not done. He beat Dorticos and Lebedev, both top cruisers, and is only 24. He just ran into a guy who utterly bamboozled him.
