Comparing Sal Sanchez's resume vs some of the top 50 boxers on espn's list, I firmly believe he would fit right in. Although he died young, his accomplishments are those of a seasoned vet.

Impressive wins against Gomes (a hof fighter of the year 78 and a beast at the time), Nelson (an atg, greatest african fighter), Lopes (devastating puncher and hof) and other fine fighters like juan laporte, ruben castillo.....

For those who have seen his fights, where would you rank him compared to popular list?

Id say he is top40 no doubt.

He was clearly one of the best fighters that weight has seen and even in a relatively short career he squeezed in more greats wins then majority of fighters out there.

I'd go as far as putting him top 30..at a push.
He's one of my favorite fighters to watch, the Gomez fight was classic and brilliant performance by Sanchez.

LOL, this just keeps going up. I have him just inside the top 20. What he did at such a young age from an accomplishment and resume stance was amazing...and his h2h ability at FW is off the charts.

that's the highest i've heard him but the argument can certainly be made. if you allow concessions for a limited resume based on his short time in the game and focus on what he did in his few years, it's ATG status to be sure. i can't think of more than a handful of fighters that did what he did in the time he did it in. by 23 he'd defeated some of the best in the game, established himself rightly as a head to head beast, and became one of mexico's best ever. i have him in the top 30 but it may be top 20 in time

I rate Salvador Sanchez as the greatest featherweight of all time Hd 2 Hd, and would have him anywhere between 25-15 in my top 100 Pd 4 Pd fighters of all time.

I can't say enough about Salvador Sanchez. It's painful to think of how much potential there was for him. Limitless upside on such a tragically short career. Then you look at how much he already accomplished, and how great he was in his fights from watching them.... Sigh. Incredible.

There lies the conundrum in rating Sal Sanchez. Head to head he should be very high on any list, but at some point lesser fighters overtake him when taking into account longevity.

So, which do you put more emphasis on? At the worst, Sanchez accomplished more in his short career than many great fighters accomplish over a 15/20 year span.

When The fight was being hyped,Gomez said that he "..was going to send the ******* home in a box."Gomez should have kept his mouth shut.Sanchez beat Little Red twice,Azumah Nelson,Gomez,Castillo,LaPorte,Ford, all before he turned 24.I'm 48 and he is the best featherweight that I've ever seen, and that includes Alexis Arguello, another fighter that I love.I believe that he is in the top 5 ever at featherweight, and maybe 2 just behind Hammerin' Hank.Perhaps Chava's only weakness is that he may have been too patient.
