What a marvelous performance by Sanchez. This was the night fans for the first time realized they were witnessing greatness. He takes apart a 27 year old hall of famer here. Displays everything you want to see in a great fighter in this fight. Lopez must have been so demoralized in there when he realized his best shots had no effect on Sanchez and the guy never got tired.

Sanchez is the only boxer I have ever seen in boxing whose expression didnt even change when hit flush by all time great punchers(Lopez and Gomez) and by another excellent puncher in the Nelson.

Sanchez was an elite boxer/puncher who could counter beautifully and had Pep like footwork with an iron jaw too. Like Sugar Ray Leonard, he always would find a way to win, looked sensational in his most important fights. Very high ring IQ. Freakish stamina, as good as Marciano’s, a stamina freak in his own right. Could drop fighters in the first round and stop them in the 15th, almost as if the first round. Could go toe to toe if needed, he could do it all

He went 4-0 with four knockouts against hall of famers all in/near their prime. I rate him number 2 featherweight of all time, and top 25 P4P all time, but sometimes I contemplate rating him even higher.

Watch the exchange at 1:09..a beautiful lead right by Sanchez followed by an incredible defensive move to make Lopez miss with a left right combo...greatness at its finest

Poor Danny---he never did get out of the way of right hands. Man, he'd get hit right on the button with clean right hands as much as anyone. He sure got hit with a ton of them through the years and maybe his eye's or his brain didn't register the punch coming.

I really liked Danny, when he fought Sanchez, it was the first time I'd seen Sal. I was hooked! Just great boxer, one of my favorites. So unfortunate his death, so sad.

Every single fight I watch of Sal I am mesmorized by how great he is. One of the best fighters in history in resume, h2h, and clutch ability

He had that sugar ray Leonard mystique in him. He got better in the bigger fights and always stepped it up in the clutch late in fights

I rate SRL very highly top 10 all time P4P. I rate wins over prime/near prime ATGs in very high regard...

Sanchez went 4-0 against hall of famers..all of them under the age of 27. Incredible

I rate Sanchez top 20 P4P. Had he hung around a little longer and defeated both arguello and Pedroza he would be top 10, maybe top 5 P4P of All time. I think he was that good that he would have continued to get slightly better until the age of 25-26..I think his death robbed him of 3-4 more peak years of huge wins. Remember..the tougher the competition the more sal rose to the occasion. I have no doubt he would have fought the best fights of his career vs arguello and Pedroza

Talent wise..Sanchez is up there with the best we’ve ever seen in history

SRL has the 3 huge wins over near prime versions of Hearns Duran and Benitez..and to end Haglers reign coming off a 3 year layoff is incredible

I think both are elite talents in history and are proven at the highest level

This fight is a clinic. He took a Hall of Famer to school in his own coming-out party.

As I continue to watch him (and I watched this fight as it happened on TV so saw pretty much his whole world-class career unfold), I keep coming back to his poise. Not only did he not ever change expression, he never lost focus when an opponent was having success in spots or had good rounds — and no matter how good you are, when you fight top fighters you have to be mentally prepared that they’re going to have success too. Yet never saw him close to rattled.

He reminds me of that line in Silence of the Lambs when Dr. Chilton says of Hannibal Lecter: “His pulse never got above 85 ... even when he ate her tongue.” Salvador was like that ... cold-blooded assassin.

A fight between him and Arguello... Oh, man. There is no way that fight wouldn't have been great.
