Sanchez though he had a short career was obviously a great fighter, but his nip and tuck bout with capable,. but not out standing Pat Cowdell showed he did not allways raise his game .Cowdell's crab like style seemed to non plus him at times.
Sanchez was indeed allways in shape ,but so was Saddler ,who lived and breathed boxing ,did not drink ,or play around, and was dedication personified.

I like Sanchez, i just like how he mixes his boxing up so well, that jab is constatntly out there, either ramming in or prodding the stomach, and he throws leather behind it all night without letting up, he's a fantastic ring general and i just think it all wokrs well for a decision here. He's not going to be 'on his bike' exclusively though, far from it, and that will mean he experiences some horror here, that's what usually happens against prime Saddler, who was a bad man in the ring.

Sanchez could decision him ... matter of styles .. Sal had the chin, the speed, the elusiveness and the counter punching ability ...

Sanchez has too much movement, speed and fluidity for Saddler. Yes Pep had those too but Pep was a weakling Sanchez isn't

Indeed. And only a car crash was able to stop Saddler as well.

While it's common to speculate on how much more Sanchez might have achieved had he not died at such a young age, it must never be forgotten that Sandy was still going strong in title competition when his own vehicular accident forced a retirement at 30. His successors were Kid Bassey and The Springfield Rifle. Do either get to the featherweight crown with Saddler in the way?

    I doubt it.
Actually I might have had a bet on Pedroza had the match between him and Sanchez been made.

Apparently Sal can improve upon Willie Pep.

Likewise. Could well have been a split decision.

Great writeup! Your opening sentence took the words right out of my mouth. Saddler's fistic ability and propensity to fight dirty work against him. Chava enters the ring with the mindset of a merciless monster. He starts quickly, as he did against Gomez, and lets Saddler know that he's in for a painfully long night. Saddler's response determines how long the fight lasts. He can fight within the rules and lose late. On the other hand, if he chooses to foul, "Stoic Sal" ups the pace to end things quickly like he's double-parked.

A better mythical matchup for Saddler would be against Eusebio Pedroza.

Pedroza vs Saddler? better be some EMT's at ringside along with security, that would be a brawl that Fritzie Zivic and LaMotta would enjoy
