12 rounds for the green WBC lightweight belt...If Sanchez would have lived, we might have seen this one. Who do you like?

    Sanchez by a one-sided decision.

Rosario, if he stuck to his counterpunching ability. There is no guarantee Salvador would have dominated 135 like he did 126.

Early Rosario before he fell in love with his power walks right through him.Clubbing Sanchez into submission with right hand after right hand.

It would make the Gomez beating look tame.

If you look at some of the guys that fought around this time (for instance), Zarate, the best bantam of his era, stepped up to fight the best super-bantam of the era in Gomez and got stopped, in turn Gomez then stepped up to fight the best feather of the era in Sanchez and was stopped brutally. So it is foreseeable that Sanchez could step up and get stopped because of Rosario's power here. The counter-argument here is that Rosario was not the best of the era, and as good as he was, he wasnt on these guys' level (at least legacy and historical-wise).

Anyway, i think Rosario can do it, but i'll just pick Sanchez because i like him, and do believe he could do it.

Rosario's belt aside. Alexis Arguello was the man at Lightweight at the time.

If Arguello stayed around any longer, edwin may have gotten to him too.

But Arguello WAS dominate at Lightweight. He has the style & power that would dissect a fighter like Rosario. Movement, Defense, ability to move around the ring to keep away from Rosario's powerful right hand. Then take over in the late rounds.

Rosario couldn't even do that to Jose Luis Ramirez! Ramirez took his punch, then turned the tables on him and stopped him.

First a R.I.P. to both great fighters.
But IMO, Sanchez would have picked Rosario apart.

I'd pick Ramirez over Sanchez too.

Or any very good lightweight to be honest.

We have literally no idea how Sanchez would have fared as a lightweight. Assuming he keeps his stamina, doesn't lose speed and is strong enough to take Rosario's shots, I take Sanchez to win a comfortable decision.

But would he keep his stamina, would he lose speed, would he be strong enough to take Rosario's shots? Who knows.

And there it lay. Sanchez is the much greater fighter, but is he the better lightweight? Very hard to establish.
