Ha his resume is great at 130??? Its good. Not great. Which one of the guys he beat at 130 is an ATG? Manfreddy?? Hernandez?? J. Chavez?? Morales beat Pac at 130 which is better than anything PBF did at that weight.

Is he going to beat him as bad as he beat Castillo?? Castillo was JCC sparring partner son. Just stop. stop....

I'm not mad at anyone, I just think it's much more likely that Sanchez would've gone off the rails within a couple of years than go on to have a long and prosperous career (which tends to happen to pretty much everyone who starts out and flourishes so young). He was already clearly as good as he was ever going to get, that much is readily evident by his championship reign. He never once topped his performance against Danny Lopez to win the belt, and seemed to stall out towards the end against the likes of Pat Cowdell and Patrick Ford, before being taken to the brink by a novice Azumah Nelson. If anything doesn't make sense, it's the suggestion that he was still improving.

So at 23 he was peaked??? No way. If he was a fighter who relied in speed and power then yes but he was a counter puncher. That style as we all know peaks later in life. I definitely thing he would have gone on to be better than Chavez. The fight was being talked about before he passed.
    What could have been.....

Who cares if he was a sparring partner? Holmes was Ali's sparring partner. Mosley was Oscar's sparring partner for PBF. Khan was Pac's sparring partner. Just because you're a sparring partner doesn't mean you can't be a great fighter in your own right.

    What of Wilfred Benitez then?

Here's a test. Go over the careers of any fighter that accomplished so much at such a young age as Sanchez (or even close), and notice the pattern regarding what ages they started to fall off. He was peaked at 23 because he'd already built up a world of experience by then (10 title fights, 5 15 rounders), having started his career at just 16 years of age, with no fine-tuning the way today's fighters get brought along. These are the things which cause a fighter to age quickly. Their bodies and minds aren't carefully moved along and primed for their supposed peak years, they're already going in full force at the same time most fighters are still learning their craft.

If that isn't enough, just watch his title reign. His title-winning performance against Danny Lopez remains the most impressive of his entire career, whereas he was struggling with the likes of the aforementioned Cowdell and Pat Ford (who Eusebio Pedroza would subsequently destroy) by the end of it. Point to any fights where he showed any improvements in counter-punching or whatever have you during the duration of his title reign.

No, it wasn't. Chavez was a total novice at the time Sanchez died. He wasn't even on the radar. The fights that were being talked about were a unification bout with Eusebio Pedroza and a move up in weight against Alexis Arguello.

Considering the fights that loomed on the horizon (the above fights, along with a rematch with a primed Nelson), and what they could and most likely would have taken out of him (even if he did manage to win a couple), I don't think he was going much further. I've spoken to die-hard Sanchez enthusiasts and reliable boxing minds that agree with me. This "what could've been" stuff is the typical cliche you hear from the casual boxing fan, not somebody who closely followed or studied Sanchez's arc as a fighter.

Sanchez was a master. I think it was Roy Jones that said Sanchez did stuff he only dream of doing.

Sanchez never fought at 130, my GUESS would be that he would handle the extra 4 lbs fine, he was always in phenomenal shape & (at least to my eyes) had the build to move up without losing anything.

I`d pick Sanchez over Mayweather in a close decision, Floyd has never met a fighter with the accuracy or counter-punching ability of Sal (vice versa is also true) but Sanchez threw more punches & had insane stamina as well, he could match FMJ inside or outside, it would be a great technical match-up but Sanchez would outwork Floyd & would walk thru anything Floyd landed to pull away in the late rounds.

Sanchez has the best stamina of any fighter I`ve ever seen, Floyd is up there too in that department I admit but Sanchez did it while being more active & against better opponents.

Sanchez, because he a.) has the stamina and strength, even at 130 and b.) he wouldn't be intimidated by the spoiled brat.

    See Mayweather- Castillo I
