Sanchez would take Fenech apart. Fenech gets overrated around here.

Thanku for that. It's much appreciated.
Fenech has always been a big favorite of mine so I dont know if I can give you a completely honest answer. For me he is great at what he does and accomplished. He had a motor like Henry Armstrong. The suffocating pressure the way he cut the ring off and his none stop punching were a sight to behold for me. Ferocious with a killer instinct to match. That style doesn't make for a long career but at his peak I do think he was great. What he accomplished with a set of very bad hands was great IMO.

Wasn’t he the runner up for Sugar Ray Leonard for fighter of the year at one point? Not bad for an Aussie! I didn’t like how square he got, it some caused issues but he was a very skilled fighter and laboured relentlessly at boxing. Mike Tyson with an engine but minus the punch! that’s what I saw when he cut the ring, how he stood, slipped and weaved he was an imitator I believe… his inside work was pretty good too, he got on a shoulder and went to work but I think his success had a lot to do with his strength there chief to his craft - like say Duran without Brown and Arcel… I hope that all make sense… he’s the answer to the question “what if Troy Dorsey could box?” Haha - as you note his style just wasn’t for a long career, the severe weight cuts, his hands and those rounds add up when you can’t punch and you fight like that… what I think is that the “draw” with Nelson costed him a lot, that was his last hurrah he was finished he’d burned the candle from both ends for a brief but very bright flame much like Benitez vs Duran he hit his ceiling unfortunately hard.

Is he? I’d say if anyone Sanchez is overrated and Fenech scrapes by with either a mention here or there, or being the guy who got robbed against Nelson not really hearing many people saying Fenech was one of the best to do it unless it’s in context to the Aussie boxing scene even then a certain USSR Bond villain type usually pulls ahead  funny that, it’s amusing though most Aussies actually don’t really like any of our home grown boxers… Fenech if you ask the average fan was an arrogant POS, Danny Green sucks etc the real old timers love Lionel Rose doe It’s Tszyu who gets a majority of the love these days somehow… Tim is a “poser” and his other brother is “eh” that’s my personal experience though, Fenech did get busted for stealing watches from memory and became a bit of a joke to a lot of folks he doesn’t really have the best “image” here.

Fenech was an aggressive puncher, whose offense was his defense.
He had power in both hands, and quick feet, which allowed him to
keep his opponents under constant pressure, literally forcing
    them into phone booth's.
But that style was tailor made for Sanchez.
Sanchez was the consummate counter puncher, with unlimited
endurance and a chin dipped in steel. He loved aggressive brawler
types that allowed him to use his entire arsenal. (See his fights against
Lopez x2 and Gomez for a reference. )
This fight would be very entertaining for about five rounds, but after
that, Sanchez's pinpoint accuracy and counter punching will began
    to take it's toll.
By the 8th round, this fight becomes one sided , as Sanchez's
superior skill level is plainly evident. And his steel hard chin easily
absorbs the few Fenech bombs that are getting through.
By the 10th rd this fight would be stopped , the brave but battered
Fenech simply outclassed by this point, and the ref stops the
    fight for his safety.
    Sanchez wins this dominantly.....

He didn't last long or have many fights. He was very stiff, straight up, easy to hit, one-dimensional. Chin wasn't that great nor was his power. I thought he was a limited brawler.
I see too many putting the ATG label on just about any fighter these days. What makes him a legit borderline to actual great boxer?

Sanchez thrived on fighters that were come forward aggressive fighters and Fenech would be the perfect fighter for Sanchez to shine against. Fenech won’t be an easy opponent by any means but Sanchez would have figured out a way to stop him in his tracks eventually and perhaps even stop him late in the fight. It would have been a fantastic war though.

The thing that gets overlooked with Jeff is in addition to his pressure he was a capable boxer as well when he wanted to be.

Fenech was much more multi-faceted than many realize. He had a very definite aggressive style, but enhanced it with intelligent movement (usually forward movement of course) and nuance. He was always in your face, but closed distances really nicely and was therefore exceedingly difficult to outbox from a distance.
