None of the new generation of boxers like Barrera, Marquez, Pac, Morales, would have beaten Sanchez at 126 ......

It's going to be competitive, any other opinion I'd have to consider nostalgia-talk. Sanchez was a better fighter and a better Featherweight than Marco Antonio Barrera, and in fact, any other 126lbs that has followed him, but Marco had a few strengths that would pose problems for anyone also. Marco would land his fair share of shots early on, but the longer it goes the more Sanchez's size and skill will prevail. I'd like to think Marco was good enough to see out the fight, but 15 rounds is asking quite a lot. I'd expect a late TKO, in truth. Could Sanchez have banged Barrera out earlier? Possibly, but I don't think he'd come out and set a tempo similar to the one Manny Pacquiao did in 03. Plus, Marco isn't likely to sleep on Sanchez.

Early competitive maybe, but Sal is better than Marco at everything Marco does well.Plus,he's a bit bigger.I personally have Sal as one of the top 3 or 4 greatest feathers ever, maybe #1.And the craziest fact is that Chava died at 23 which means we never saw him in his prime even though he had a great resume.

I think Marco was a better puncher in combination, and I'm not liable to change my opinion unless video evidence is brought forward. Granted, that's the only thing he did better, but Marco deserves credit for being truly outstanding in this area.

Sanchez for me, i just can't see how i can give Marco the win. Of course it's competitive, these are top fighters, but Sanchez is my winner every time i consider this one.

Barrera looks good real early and competitive, but Sanchez takes over and stops him, imo. Hurts me because I love Barrera as a fighter.

The conservative pick is Sal by decision, but on reflection it must be noted that Sanchez stepped up considerably in performance when faced with more anticipated resistance, so a late stoppage certainly can't be ruled out.

If a 13-0 Azumah Nelson can come very close to seeing out the 15th, there's enough reason to believe a 54-3 Marco Antonio Barrera could win more rounds than Nelson, on way to losing a unanimous decision.

Well, again, Nelson was not a heralded opponent, and the big news immediately following that match concerned how poorly Sal felt during their bout. Considering what Azumah would go on to achieve, it's remarkable to me that Sanchez managed to produce the stoppage he did.

While I voted for Sal to win by decision, it again bears repeating that he performed to the level of his anticipated competition, and so I'd expect him to be far more motivated and prepared for confronting the expected greater resistance of a 54-3 Barrera than a 13-0 Nelson.

Addie, your reasoning is perfectly rational, but the rapid and destructive manner in which Sanchez took apart Gomez was not predictable, even in hindsight, so Sal might deserve some additional credit for intangibles regarding this hypothetical matchup. It'll be interesting to see how the polling breaks between the remaining votes in favor of a late stoppage or decision win for Sanchez.
