It's not all that remarkable too me. Nelson was green, , who in the hell goes in with an established fighter like Sanchez in only their 13th professional contest? Unreal, I was more impressed with how well Nelson performed than I was with Sanchez.

Likewise, so did Barrera. His best performances came against solid contenders, and some of the best fighters on the planet at the time. I hear some people whispering Manny Pacquiao, but he was not considered a threat to Marco at the time. He was moving up to 126lbs and fighting undoubtedly the best Featherweight in the world. He was expected to get stopped, and Barrera probably took him lightly...by his own admission. When he knew what he was up against, he'd perform much more competitively a few years later, despite Manny improving. Says it all.

I think Marco made for a much better Featherweight than Gomez. I can't rationalize as to why that is, but we all knew how successful both fighter would be - and perhaps the equaliser was simply that whereas Marco had Morales and Hamed to contend with, fantastic fighters in their own right, they weren't quite the same as peak Salvador Sanchez. In any event, I agree with the general consensus in that Sanchez would win...but he isn't going to roll over a fighter of Marco's calibre.

No 126 pounder in history who might be able to beat Barrera would not be able to beat him easily, Barrera was a true to life elite and Sal Sanchez would have his hands full with him.
