Sanchez's first title defense after stopping Little Red and Castillo coming off a TKO loss to Arguello . What are your thought's on this fight? What does your scorecard look like ?

Castillo is working Sanchez, I have him pitching a shutout through 4 . I'm not sure if the judges have it that way but they should, Castillo is beating him to the punch with ease but he does look like he is breathing through his mouth already . 4-1 after 5

RD 1,2,3,4 Castillo is very quick landing some great combinations and surprising Sanchez, I don't think Sanchez was ever hurt just outboxed

RD 5,6,7 Sanchez landing some ctr punches that are moving Castillo, a few quick stiff body shots as well, Sanchez seems to be figuring out Castillo's timing and I do believe Sanchez might've hurt Castillo in rd 7

Halfway pt 4 -3 Castillo with Sanchez winning 3 rds in a row by ctr punching and his right hand is starting to play a part.
i'll finish the rest tomorrow , not the most detailed analysis but either way a great fight . These little guys are quick and entertaining .

RD 8,9,10 Sanchez doesn't even look winded , he has been calm , collected and patient , continuing his counter punching and displaying some good power punching as well ,Castillo has become more trigger shy and at times looks confused because Sanchez has figured him out , Castillo is missing punches and takes alot of his punches and frustration out on the air surrounding him and the effects of moving backwards and punching while moving backwards hasn't done him favors as Sanchez is pressing more and more.

Thru 10 rds I have it 6-4 Sanchez ,with Sanchez winning 6 rds in a row, Castillo showed life in rd 9 but not enough to win the rd.

    Final Analysis

RD 11 tough call but Castillo
RD 12 again tough both landing and scoring but Sanchez having the ability to ctr punch w his right wins the rd
RD13 my favorite rd thus far back and forth , could call this even but Castillo threw a combo that hurt Sanchez . Sanchez effective in stopping the progression of Castillo's combo w Ctr pch rt hd . Castillo seems to be more successful in reaction to a instigated attack from Sanchez , that's when he throws superb combination packages , like in the first 4 rds in which I gave him all 4 . Tons of heart shown by both but Castillo wins rd 13
Rd 14 Sanchez in command , throwing and scoring with combos , still very cAlm , doesn't look winded , castillos best part of the rd was the last 10 sec and he's winded. Sanchez wins 14
Rd15 Sanchez , Castillo didn't let it all hang out as I thought he would. , he's tired yes but it could be him being cautious maybe thinking that's he's done enough to win .

    Final Score
9 rds to 6 for Sanchez or 144 to 141, which by rd 11 I thought Castillo was mounting a comeback to make the fight close at 104 to 105, drops rd 12 to get it back to 113 to 115 Rd 13 Castillo wins making it 123-124 one point behind Sanchez, so he was right there but drops the last 2 rds to Sanchez .

Left column is Castillo's and right is Sanchez's throughout the progression of the fight
    RD 1 Castillo 10-9
    RD 2 Castillo 20-18
    RD 3 Castillo 30-27
    RD 4 Castillo 40-36
    RD 5 Sanchez 49-46
    RD 6 Sanchez 58-56
    RD 7 Sanchez 67-66
RD 8 Sanchez 76-76 Sanchez ties up the fight
RD 9 Sanchez 85-86 Sanchez takes the lead
    RD 10 Sanchez 94-96
RD 11 Castillo 104-105 Is Castillo coming back
    RD 12 Sanchez113-115
RD 13 Castillo 123-124 One point away with two rds to go
    RD 14 Sanchez132-134
    RD 15 Sanchez 141-144

I would like to see how the judges had it scored
If Castillo pulled this win off which he was almost about to do IMO , Lopez was lurking in the shadows waiting in which I think Lopez could've beaten Castillo but Sanchez proved to be Lopez superior. Lopez beats Castillo how much further does Lopez go .Probably fights Sanchez, loses the title and then retires.

This was definitely a more lackluster performance by Sanchez and Castillo's best performance. I think Ruben truly thought he won or at least earned a draw. Ruben was a very good fighter, which is why I give Chavez even more credit for dismantling him in the fashion that he did. Fun fight though. Castillo also gave Arguello a pretty good fight.

Castillo went on to be an excellent commentator on Prime Ticket, typically working the fights at the Los Angeles Forum.

You can find an interview on youtube where he says Arguello is his idol, Chavez had his number from the start, and that he whipped Sanchez's ass.

Comparing those performances relative to each other is dicey. Arguello's versus Sanchez is fair enough, but Chavez got him five years after Sanchez. He was a bit long in the tooth by then and didn't have the same legs.

Either way , fantastic fight , I'm gonna dive more into this era of this division . This was a fantastic time for this division along with superfeather and lightweights. I've always been a fan of the hvys but my attention has been diverted a bit now.

I'd be keenly interested in your take on how a Pedroza-Sanchez match would go. Seen much Pedroza? Fun to watch, the filthy *******. Watch his fight with Juan Laporte to see what I mean about that. Interesting style that would have been difficult for Sanchez, though.

For sure I will look at those, I've heard of Pedroza being dirty but just never took the time to form an opinion. Did you agree with the way I scored the fight ? I looked at the judges and I was somewhat close, I assure you I didn't look til after and I always turn the volume down ( might sound crazy ) to avoid any sway that may come commentators or crowd reaction . I'll get on those fights you mentioned . I was just watching Grazianzo and SRR. Which I never looked at Graz before in depth. Lot of rabbit punching during a clinch. That strayed, anyways cool.

I haven't watched it in years. I'll have to go back and give it a look-see. I might be able to shake free for a bit tonight.......

Gotta say it wasn't even that close. Sanchez was just the boss after the 4th, being the more effective aggressor and the more consistent aggressor. Castillo had his moments but didn't really have his rounds.

I had it 8-5-2 for Sanchez.
