Who do you think would win in this match. The only reason I am wondering a rematch regardless of that ass whooping is because I read that Gomez barely trained for that fight because of being so cocky.

I would probably say it's the same result because I'm not big on old fights like that, but maybe someone who has more knowledge on this type of thing can add their input.

I'm interested to hear opinions on this one.

But the bad news for Gomez is that Sanchez didn't even budge when he got hit clean, and it happened a few times. You could argue his shots lost their steam after that first round (all time display of heart to make it to his corner), but it's tough to see how he wins a rematch.

  5. Sanchez would have killed him, gomez wasn't even in Salvadors league...:-(

  6. It isn't an old fight only 1982, Sanchez dominated it, i can't believe someone would even post this...
The fight was too 1 sided to demand a rematch..

Gomez was in Sanchez's league but at his own weight...I know its only a few pounds but Wilfredo is a great example of a fighter who is truly his best at his favored weight and clearly declined when he moved away from it.

Sanchez would have beaten him again, not much doubt about that. But probably not as decisively, Wilfredo came back pretty well after a shocking start. Id say Sanchez gets him a little later in the return.

Suck's we never seen it... R.I.P. "Chava"
But I would have been willing to bet Gomez was also happy a rematch never happened.
(He got a severe Cotto like beating in that fight)

Gomez was great at 122 pounds, but merely average at 126 to 130 pounds...... Gomez' KO power was nowhere near as devastating at 126 to 130 pounds....... 122 was Gomez at his best.......

I agree with this 100%.I believe in the rematch Sal beats him worse.Gomez was considered the favorite in that one and was considered the p4p hardest puncher in the sport. He hit Chava with a couple of big shots and Sal didn't even blink.I'd never seen anything like that before.Who knows how that affected Gomez psychologically.

You don't even believe that yourself. What a pathetic crybaby you are. :|

Gomez would've won if he trained right. :|
Gomez would've won if he didn't screw that celebrity. :|
Gomez would've won if he wasn't doing drugs. :|
Gomez would've won if he had brushed his teeth. :|
Gomez would've won if he had wiped his ass. :|
Gomez would've won if he hadn't been drugged. :|
Gomez would've won if he knew how to fight. :|
Gomez would've won if Sanchez hadn't shown up. :|
wah, wah, wah X 1,000= doesn't change the fact that Gomez got his ass kicked in the greatest bout between a Mexican and a Puerto Rican. Know your place Boricua. Viva Mexicoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sanchez would've always beaten Gomez. Not only did he have similar skills to even a peak Gomez, but he had the size, strength, and durability that Gomez lacked, especially at the higher weights. Gomez just was not at his peak above 122, and was clearly the smaller man in the ring with Sanchez.
