He didn't use similar head movement as these swarmers, but I wouldn't call him less sophisticated. He used different techniques to protect himself.
There's footage available and photos on google https://sep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-13159482790260_2269_115909905 Look at the stance. Back then they fought out of the same stance they posed for in pictures. Low hands because they grappled a lot. Marciano in fights would feign a grab attempt and launch a right hand at the last second. Imagine his right hand exploding on Langfords head as he is coming in defenseless. .
So you think having hands low equal to having no defense? Walcott and Layne fought with hands low and Marciano didn't find them defenseless.
All I have to go by is their records, what was written about them, and the surviving films. Actually, I guess that is all most of us have to go by. While I would not rule out a Sam Langford win, I believe Rocky Marciano would win most times, but not necessarily by knockout.
This fight falls in the top ten fantasy fights of all time. Im a Rocky fan over Langford but the truth is this fight has a sense of unpredictability. It would be interesting to see what the gambling odds would be given there is no external influence.
True but then Rocky bent the rules pretty good in his own time. If it’s carte blanche, then the opposition would be more likely to return in kind without fear of official reprisal themselves. Imagine the fouls in a fight between Dempsey and Rocky and having to down a shot for each and everyone you counted? A fight between that pair might not last too long but subject to that drinking game, you yourself might not last long enough to see the finish.
I love Rocky but voted Langford who was a freak of nature. I've never seen an accurate measurement of his arm length but I wouldn't be surprised if it was double Rockys arm ,length.
based on the highlight clip of Langford I would say he's a bit too sloppy, he seems to stumble sometimes when he's coming in swinging, when he starts throwing they are pretty wild swings, he also does that thing where he braces/pushes on his opponents shoulders leaving his midsection stretched out and open, I don't care how long his arms are Rocky would find a way to his ribs, Rocky would stalk Langford and learn his rhythm and more than likely KO him with a perfectly timed or even a counter right hand
Certainly, Langford could win. I'd probably favor Rocky if you time-machined them together, but if it was coming along at the same time and developing by the times opportunities in ratio to how they'd developed in their own day, I think it would be very, very clsoe odds.
