hello! i have recently bought the sam langford book. in it, it has about 99 pictures. quite a few of them were from fights. it made me wonder how many langford fights are on film. i know the jim flynn and bill lang fights are filmed. i have heard the iron hague and dixie kid fights are also on film? theres a website with over a 1000 boxing vids. it says it has fights or clips of sam langford but doesnt tell you until you register? anyone know where i can get his fights from? :thumbsup
when i googled searched i just found pictures. this is the site i was on about http://www.boxingcollection.com/
That site looks the same as this site http://www.boxing-videos.net/index.html and is a bit of a con if you read this thread http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70578.
You can buy Langford vs Flynn and Langford vs Lang for a fair price from multiple sources. The Lang fight is a good example of a prime Langford. Langford's work out clips can also be purchased on film. Langford is also out there on film vs Hauge, but it is hard to obtain. It has been confirmed that a private collector has Langford vs Jeanette.
Author of the new Langford book Clay Moyle. Clay has seen Langford vs Jeanette on flim and says Langford pounds Jeanette from pillar to post. Mr. Moyle word is good in the boxing community. He also owns at least 100 boxing books. http://www.amazon.com/Sam-Langford-Greatest-Uncrowned-Champion/dp/1934733024
i have watched abit of langford against lang n flynn. and the conclusion i come to us that he is a more active and far more powerful version of James Toney. only difference i believe is that at times langford would counter the first shot or the second and then start trading, cos he was strong enough. whereas james would use his defense to weather the storm and then comeback with his own combos. if you watch james against rydell booker, it looks proper like the langford of the bill lang fight.
There are a few good clips on cyberboxing.com if you haven't seen them. Curious about the photos in the book on Langford. Are there action shots from before 1910? I don't think the camera speed was that good then.

Moyle's book cites Langford as saying he thought they were used so Lang's blows would look more conspicuous against Sam's dark skin (and Sam's less conspicuous against Lang's fair skin). Sam also said his punching didn't seem to have it's usual effect. Suspicious, he cut open his gloves after the fight and found they were filled with rabbit's fur (instead of horse hair). Langford won on a foul in the sixth when, spilling to the floor after missing a hook, he was stuck by Lang before rising. According to Moyle referee Corri said he was glad it ended on a foul, as he thought Lang likely to be seriously hurt before contests end. Lang claimed "I was making my own fight, a waiting game ... Each time I went down I could ahve got up sooner, but ... I wanted to use up all Langford's time." This content is protected
I saw three of Sam langfords opponents in their old ages..Jack johnson at a circus on Bwy, and Kid Norfolk and tall Harry Wills at Stillmans gym in New York in the 1940s.. But the man I would have loved to see in person was the 5ft.6'' immortal Sam Langford...His weight and height was a handicap but he overcame these obstacles...Yessir...
One really interesting part of Moyle's book was the time Langford spent in Australia. And he fought a series of fights with McVey, loosing the first, but eventually gaining control of the series. And the amazing thing is that infighting was generally not tolerated by the Australian police -- all the greater handicap for Sam against a world class opponent. Langford said that McVea's forearms were curved, which gave his punches a very deceptive trajectory as they came towards him.
I'm so pissed off that someone has footage of the Langford Jeanette fight and doesnt want to release it. Here is a gif I have found of this exact fight which I'm sure would be agreat one to see. This content is protected
I have seen Langford v Hague it was on a series entitled " Boxing Classics ", a friend of mine probably still has a video of it.
