OK, so maybe I'll find out the real story when I read the Moyle book this week. Still, Langford has to be one of if not the most interesting boxer ever.
Yeah his record looks spotty as hell, but the reality is for a large portion of his career he beat everyone he fought. And this was after beating Gans and Walcott whilst they were both champions.
If I remember correctly Moyle's book, and I may not, Langford pretty much carried Ketchel to get a more lucrative return bout. I will have to revisit.
He also managed to starch a young George Godfrey a couple of times late in his career. Even with one bad eye and diminishing sight in the other, Sam was still dangerous.
