I'm curious on how such a small man was such a nightmare for taller fighters...or so I've heard His power could be compared to Tyson (also something I heard somewhere else) but what was his style? Educate me please :bbb
Honestly tall fighters with good jabs gave him hell. But anyway he was shifty, would feint his way into position, block and parry more than slip and unleash hooks and uppercuts. With his short arms he could generate power even in the clinches.
Langford had a long reach ,aided by abnormally broad shoulders. His 74" inches stacks up well with Johnson's 73",Jeannette's74",McVey's75",Smith's72".As you correctly say It was the really lanky guys that gave him fits Wills76" and Albatross Fred Fulton 84.5".
Ive always called Langford (and Tyson, who was latter day Langford to a degree) an aggressive counter-puncher. He would move in on guys forcing them to fire off punches and then while moving forward he would slip those punches and counter with his own dynamite. A very fun style to watch. He got ridiculous leverage on his punches with those long arms, even in close.
Langford was a forward moving pressure fighter. He didn’t have much defense vs. the jab, nor did he seem to care if he was hit by the punch. He was rather stationary on the outside, but had quick feet and knew how to chase and cut off the ring if needed. Langford could unload deadly punches with either hand at long range or up close. His left hook was likely his best punch, but he also had a good right cross and deadly uppercut. A good body puncher as well. Langford was a decent counter puncher, somewhat comparable to James Toney in terms of counter punching. Strong in the clinches, Langford is best described as an extremely compact man with long arms, power and skill. Langford was very tough with the stamina to fight 20+ rounds. His ability to recuperate from a punch was impressive. And he was a thinking man’s type of fighter. You can see him vs. Lang, Flynn, or Jeannette. He also has work out clips.
I left that one out un-propose to avoid snide comments, but you said you saw it in this forum. Remember! :hi:
He also admitted he was wrong, something you have been completely unable to do. Or, as is usually the case, you just dont want to admit you lied.
Or McVey has no clue about what he was watching and after further review and you telling him, he had not choice to admit the mistake. A few posters here have seen it. I guess you think they are all liars. Maybe one day you'll see it and can retract your statement as well. The KO is brutal. Hague's out like a light near a corner.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Id pay top dollar to anyone who can post actual screen caps from it. Just screen caps. I dont need to see it moving, I dont need to see the film, I dont need a copy. The only person saying theyve seen it is you, a verifiable liar. Anyone who wants to make some quick easy money and shut me up can do it. They wont and neither will you because they dont have it and youve never seen it.
He was dangerous at all distances but ,as you pointed out he was susceptible to tall, long armed jabbers.
I've never had any problem admitting I made a mistake. The video my friend has is of Langford v Lang Since you have such a vivid memory of the fight, can I ask you the following questions. 1. Which hand Hague scored his knockdown with ? 2.Which hand Langford scored the ko with? 3.What was Langford's immediate reaction to the blow, i e did he go down instantly, after a pause or what ? 4.Which other posters beside yourself claim to have seen this fight?
