I know - we have nothing on Greb and very little on Langford. Well have a think and make a nod anyway, let's see what people make of these two old time ATG's. 15 rounds, 8 ounce gloves...a referee that is going to break silly clinches and is interested in the worst fouls, maybe not the lesser ones. I'm picking Langford to hook out a late KO.
If Sammy somehow managed a kayo, his hook would be the most likely culprit. However, nobody was ever able to kayo Greb with a punch, and I don't think the Nova Scotian transplant to Boston would have turned the trick over the native Pittsburgher either. Pittsburgh Windmill decisions Boston Tar Baby. Greb W PTS 15 Langford
Mickey Walker was known to knock out heavyweights, yet a clearly declining Greb managed to handle the Toy Bulldog pretty decisively, winning 12 of the 15 rounds. (Even in his BS laden autobiography, the Mick didn't dispute Greb's points win.) Dempsey challengers KO Bill Brennan, Billy Miske, and Tommy Gibbons were all capable of loading up and banging very hard. But Langford would need to catch Greb before he could nail him, something easier said than done.
Greb wins this one by UD! based on what we know, what was written and said about Greb, he just does not lose, and Langford has and can be beat.
Langford to the body. Langford to the body and Langford to the body. Langford by KO. A greater fighter and not to be troubled by Greb. There is a reason Greb never fought Sam. No matter what Clompton says.
I guess stylistically, Greb being the swarmer he is, might be at a disadvantage against such a big puncher in Langford, but Greb’s also incredibly hard to our point. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here.
