Sam Langford vs Archie Moore at Lightheavyweight - who would have won?

:thinkthis is a tough one for me. you seem very sure on this though. how do you see it going down?

 

Moore might well solidly school Langford, far better skills. Moore would also land some big counters on Langford as he bulls forward, so I wouldnt completely rule out Moore stopping Langford. On the other hand I dont like an old man with some chin issues going against a relentless punching machine either

 

thanks for the analysis. i was wondering about your take on moore's chin. as you said, it was quite strong at 175 but at heavy he wasn't as durable. guys like charles could outbox him at 175 but i wonder how he could handle the power of langford.

langford and moore both seemed quite patient and adept at setting traps to get their knockouts. admittedly, langford seemed better at creating opportunities against bigger men and appears to have significantly more power pound for pound

 

charles was an excellent puncher but he wasn't as relentless or determined for knockouts when he fought moore as he was in his youth.

 

Langfords fights were sped up because of the poor film so hes not as quick as he looks

 

If this would be true, he would have zero losses on his record.

at his natural weight, he is h2h one of the best. above his best weight though, he size became a disadvantage

 

There very well could be some highlight reel episodes for Moore as he follows Langford's bobbing head but in the end we cannot turn a blind eye to the malleable power. The power of punch and the hustling style of Langford is what will begin to burn Moore up.

Sam would systematically lock all the exit doors and bombard his target with regular bolts of hell. To see Moore lasting into the double figures is a tough one.
