Again, he wasn't killed by many top rated punchers with similar physical gifts. One thing is sure - Langford would take this fight and he would be confident with his chances.

Honestly , how in the love of money would he beat Wilder? the guy was 5 '7, that's like asking Duran to get to him.

I mean, he knocked out George Godfrey who was almost identical when it comes to physical atributes. He knocked out Wills too and McVea wasn't small either.

Again, not saying that I'd bet on it but Langford definitely proved that he could beat guys of Ortiz or Wilder size.

    Here is the thing.

Yes Langford was short, but he was not small.

    He was basically stunted.

His chest, reach, and upper body were all like a heavyweight.

Look at a picture of him next to Joe Louis, if you don't believe me.

His power, and durability, were basically up there with anybody at the time, or many years later.

The perfect heavyweight never existed, except in this case it almost did.

You had a guy, who literally had everything except height and reach.

Power, durability, cleverness, footwork, ring generalship, the latter three compensating for his lack of height and reach.

If Sam Langford could be stretched to 6' 1'' and 76'' in reach, he would have beaten every heavyweight who ever lived!

Big men today fight very differently than the big men of the early 20th century. I don't put much stock in those wins as any kind of gauge of howe well Langston would fare against big men who fight from long range and try to control distance. For all the things Wilder gets criticized for doing in this forum, he'd look like a revelation as a well-trained big man (with excellent speed and extraordinary power) compared to his counterparts from a century ago.

How so? What is so much better about Wills? What makes him a more formidable opponent for a 5'7 fighter?

Langford is a lot bigger than Duran, with a much longer reach, and much more accomplished against larger fighters.

For the people who arent trolling and think a 5'7 middleweight has a chance here, have any of you actually boxed before?

There was a guy in my gym who was a featherweight with like 30 something amateur bouts and a winning record. Won a golden gloves and a few minor local tournaments. I was in awr of his technique and work ethic. Me, i hadnt been boxing for more than 6 months and hadnt a single match under my belt and obly maybe 12 sparring matches. Long story short, we sparred and i outlanded him multiple times for several rounds. Iy wasn't long before I controlled the pace and range and by the end he was doubling over from my body blows as I turned up the heat. Im only 6'1 and at the time about 180 lbs, he was 5'9 126-130 lbs and struggled throughout the whole match. That's only a 4 inch height difference and despite him having the advantage in almost every category (speed, stamina, experience, technique, etc) I was making him look bad and the coach told me he said he never wanted to fight me again.

So yeah you can leave these fairy tales in your scrap book because i know firsthand how much a significant height and weight difference makes. And wilder is no amateur with a few sparring matches, he's a champion with what, 6 title defenses now? Solid chin and easily one of the top 10 if not top 5 hitters in the divisions history? Highly athletic with a ferocious killer instinct and underrated timing? Langford might be p4p one of the most skilled of all time but if a phenomenal skilled outside fighter like fury couldnt avoid getting dropped twice, you think a 5'7 middleweight from 100 years ago whose used to fighting mostly plodders and barroom saloon brawlers is going to just school him and knock him out?

Does anyone think willie pep could win a decision over Carl the truth Williams?

He fights like he is, 9 defences and he definitely doesn't have a solid chin

Despite his smallness disadvantage, Wilder would win. It's all he does.

In a three fight series, I see Wilder signing to fight Langford, and everyone on this board laughing that Wilder is fighting someone a foot smaller than him.

I see the Dillian Whyte fans screaming that Wilder is fighting a blown-up super lightweight instead of Whyte, and Wilder should be stripped.

I see the Mexican fans saying Langford couldn't even beat Canelo, let alone Wilder.

I see Tyson Fury saying he's taken bigger dumps than Langford when he was on coke.

Then I see Wilder and Langford getting in the ring, and Wilder moving around about six feet away from Langford, so Sam's pawing jabs don't come within three feet of the Champ.

I see Wilder winding up and blasting Langford out with a monster right hand, and Langford goes down, his legs twitching.

Then I see everyone flooding this board asking if it was the greatest mismatch in heavyweight history and if Wilder's the biggest coward in boxing history or just the biggest bully, or both, because he won't fight people his own size.

Then I see Wilder saying "We've got a deal for two more fights." And I see Fox and Showtime saying they won't televise any of these mismatches anymore.

And I see everyone on Twitter saying Sam Langford should wake up and realize this isn't the early 20th century anymore. You don't get to fight guy eight or nine times, or even three times, if you can't fight back.

And it's dubbed the biggest black eye in the sport for years.
